This morning at 10am, Pure Tūroa launched its Season Pass sales. The team was absolutely delighted that everything went to plan smoothly, with customers wide and far complementing the process, happy to secure their Season Passes. Jason Beaudry commented, “I got mine, I cannot wait to hit the mountain. Since the installation of cameras on 127 vessels, the volume of reported fish discarded has increased by 46 percent and interactions with protected species, including seabirds and dolphins, is more than double what was previously reported.   A big part of trail running and dabbling with ultra marathons requires coming to grips with the fueling required to keep you going.  I did a little experiment to test my body’s requirements: Runs up to one hour- nothing required. 1 to 1.5 -water 1.5 to 2 hours,  a gel at 1 hour, water every 30 mins 2-3 hours a gel every 45 mins, water every 20 mins. 3 hours plus gels and water, up to 3 hours and then some real food. The latest release from Camelbak is the Apex Pro running vest. I was sent one to test drive and I had some deep thought on how I would put it through it’s paces.   I usually use a back pack for my distance races with the thought that I can carry more water and not have to waste time topping it up. This tactic did not pay off in the Kepler last December when I ran dry for the last 10k. I was lucky that there was a supermarket set up on the trail that saved me from dehydration.
