Here’s a photo dump of a Blog, to celebrate a visit by three very good friends from our Campervan days. We met on Friday afternoon at the Filey Country Park car park to do a shortish walk, taking in Filey Brig, a cliff top wander and the seafront. The weather was blowy to say the least, but didn’t detract from a great opportunity to catch up, although the high tide meant we had to adapt the route slightly to get back to the cars ..read more

A small photo-filled Post of images from today’s trip to Flamborough South Landing. In truth, it’s more to test out IT capabilities but, despite getting caught in the rain and the lack of beach due to a high tide, all three of us enjoyed ourselves ..read more

A Week in Sparty Lea

We drove down on Saturday from Ardnamurchan, to our next cottage in Northumberland. Isaac’s Cottage is in the remote community of Sparty Lea, which is nestled under the shadow of Killhope Law (standing at just over 2,000ft) in the East Allen Valley. Hexham is 15 miles or so away, past the large village of Allendale which serves the area via a Co-op, a couple of pubs, a butchers and a tea room. Isaac’s CottageAllendale It’s been a week of rain, rain and more rain but it hasn’t stopped us from getting out and about. The North Pennine Moors are either bleak and foreboding or a spectacular wildern ..read more

Rocking up to Rockpool House

It’s time for our regular trip to Ardnamurchan, but first we had to beat Storm Babet, which was raging down the east coast. The drive up wasn’t pleasant, but we made it ok to Jodie and Simon’s place in Inverroy for a stopover, before heading to Resipole. Snow on the hills The Corran Ferry has been out of action for months, so the drive to Rockpool House Apartment took 40 minutes longer, but with the advantage of travelling along one of our favourite routes from Fort Willam, via Glenfinnan and then towards Glen Uig. We stopped before reaching Acharacle to allow Alison to walk Ralf along the Pri ..read more

An Indian Summer in Deepest Dorset

Wayside Cottage, Stoke Abbott Earlier in the year, when we booked a cottage for two weeks in September, we had no idea we’d drop lucky with the hottest week of the year. It’s our first trip to Dorset together and we’ve had a fantastic time visiting beaches, chocolate box villages and bustling markets. We drove down via the Static where we’d been on Ruby duty overnight. The M5 was manic but once we’d dropped her off with her Dad at the services, we made relatively good time to the small village of Stoke Abbott. This post will be photo heavy and features many tourist sites that lots of you wil ..read more

After a traumatic time last week, we were looking forward to a stress free few days – Alison found a new beach to visit between Scarborough and Cayton Bay (in Yorkshire Life Magazine of all places), which isn’t too far away, so, with the sun shining we headed off towards Scarborough. Wikipedia: Cornelian Bay is a bay of the North Sea near Scarborough, North Yorkshire, England. It is located between the headlands of White Nab and Knipe Point, just north of Cayton Bay. Geographical features of note include two Second World War pillboxes. Public access can be had from the steep lane leading fro ..read more

People often criticise Social Media as a waste of time and a cesspit of anger, fake news and lies. Whilst some of that is undoubtedly true, it can also be a way of meeting like minded people who you’d never get to know in real life. I’m a member of a Forum for displaced Middlesbrough football club supporters called Diasboro (https://diasboro.club/forum/). It’s mainly a group of men of a certain age, reminiscing about Boro’s brief glory days and discussing the current state of our favourite team, but it also becomes a virtual pub where we can talk about things outside of football. There’s a sha ..read more

Ralf’s had an injured paw for a few weeks so our trips out have been a bit restricted. He’s recovering now, giving us the opportunity to drive to Kirkham Priory, on the other side of Malton. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kirkham_Priory Despite the forecast we had sunshine and a warm day – the Priory is part of English Heritage so we could use our cards for free entry and we even took a picnic for once. After a walk around the ruins, we took Ralf for an off lead walk beside the River Derwent and into Kirkham Woods – the paths were a bit muddy underfoot but he was wearing a small boot that Ali ..read more

A Return to Croft Castle

We’ve been staying at the static van near Bow House for a few days, so decided to pop across the county border for a second visit to Croft Castle. I’ve used ChatBox for most of the words in this post, maybe it’s the future. Croft Castle is a historic country house located in the county of Herefordshire, England. The castle was built in the 15th century and has been owned by the Croft family for over 400 years. The castle is surrounded by beautiful gardens and parkland, which are open to the public. The castle has a rich history and has been home to many notable figures over the years. During t ..read more
