Grace and Chris’ relationship began on 2/29, so it was only fitting that 8 years later, they would get married on the same date. I mean, their opportunity to do so only comes around every four years. So, they planned a late February wedding on a THURSDAY, and chose the beautiful Celebration Farm as the venue for their wedding ceremony and reception. As it turns out, this was supposed to be a windy February day . . . which wind is never really a great thing, especially in February. In the end though, we were blessed with a really beautiful day, and the arched amphitheater was generally very wel ..read more

HarMac Wedding Pictures – Tre & Becky’s Big Day

Tre and Becky are married! We were blessed to spend the day with them to capture all the details of their big day. The setting was the HarMac, which is an industrial gem in downtown Cedar Rapids. We started the day at the HarMac. We finished the day at the HarMac. And every moment in between was at the HarMac. That’s one of the great things about that venue—no travel instantly makes your day a whole lot better. We started the day with the girls getting their hair and makeup done. As they finished up, it was time for Becky to don her regal wedding dress, and as she did, she turned into a legit ..read more

Celebration Farm Wedding Pictures—Patrick & Sabrina’s Big Day

I’m just here to declare what you already know. Sunshine in late fall just looks really, really good! As the leaves turned their brilliant hues for the last few days of fall, the Celebration Farm outside of Iowa City was the backdrop for Patrick and Sabrina’s wedding day. The forecast called for cloudy skies all day on their late October date, but nature seemed to join in the celebration, as unexpected rays of frequent sunshine pierced through the overcast skies, casting a golden glow that enhanced the magic of the day’s best moments. We started the day with Sabrina getting into her bedazzled ..read more

Union Horse Distilling Company Wedding Pictures—Michael & Kayla’s Big Day

We traveled to suburban Kansas City last weekend for Michael and Kayla’s wedding at the Union Horse Distilling Company. Their day was a testament to the idea that simplicity and intimacy can create unforgettable moments. Kayla and I were colleagues way back when in another life, and she has even shot a wedding with me. Our desks were next to each other for a couple years, so we became really good friends. I have a photo on my phone of Kayla wearing a grill while embracing a life-size Lil Wayne cutout. Kayla was stubborn, and she was adamant that she would never get married. Michael entered the ..read more

Cedar Ridge Wedding Pictures – Travis & Brittany’s Big Day

We had the privilege of being a part of Travis and Brittany’s wedding day at Cedar Ridge Winery. Cedar Ridge is my favorite place to shoot, and Travis and Brittany have been one of my favorite couples to partner with. It was bound to be a great day. I can’t tell you how many times I laughed out loud looking through some of these photos, remembering the circumstances that surrounded them. We started the day at the Hotel Kirkwood, where Brittany and her bridesmaids prepared for the big event. What set the tone for the day’s whimsy was Brittany’s choice of attire while getting her hair and makeup ..read more

Hotel Kirkwood Wedding Pictures – Ben & Hannah’s Big Day

Ben and Hannah’s wedding day at Hotel Kirkwood in Cedar Rapids was a perfect blend of elegance, emotion, and playful nostalgia. Their wedding was at Hotel Kirkwood in Cedar Rapids, and the venue fit their vision of a black tie event with accents of lavender perfectly. The entire atmosphere exuded sophistication and class. We started the day capturing the girls getting their hair and makeup done upstairs in what you could call ‘joyous chaos’ perhaps. There were three different dress malfunctions or challenges that all hit at the same time as Hannah was waiting to dazzle her bridesmaids with her ..read more

Celebration Farm Wedding Pictures – Noah & Maddie’s Big Day

Noah and Maddie have a flair for the dramatic and enjoy tugging on people’s emotions. They are both big into theater, of course. Their wedding day was no different. They enjoyed a perfect day (barely) at the Celebration Farm this weekend. They were blessed to have the rain hold off for the entire day despite some long odds of that being the case. I guess raindrops are their preferred sleep sound, which they were probably able to enjoy the authentic sounds of later that night. We started the day with the girls getting ready at the Homewood Suites in Coralville’s River Landing district. In addit ..read more

The HarMac Cedar Rapids Wedding Pictures – Ben & Jennifer’s Big Day

We spent this past Sunday with Ben and Jennifer for their wedding ceremony and reception at the HarMac in downtown Cedar Rapids. As usual, we spent the first part of the day shooting details and documented the girls getting ready. Ben and Jennifer’s dog Zelda (named from the beloved video game franchise) is clearly a big part of each normal day, so it only made sense that she would be a big part of their best day. Whether or not the 7 photos of her included here is overkill, I’m not sure, but we couldn’t help ourselves. She was a fixture in the bridal suite, transitioning from lap to lap for t ..read more

The Midnight Gem Wedding Pictures Styled Shoot
Carter Photography Blog

A powerhouse team of wedding vendors got together last month for a styled shoot at one of the area’s new and exciting wedding venues—The Midnight Gem in Swisher, Iowa. The result? Pretty pictures, of course. These should have been posted a while ago, but my trusty (old) iMac bit the dust literally the day after this shoot, so I was forced into a 2.5 week vacation while I waited on a new machine to arrive. It has been a slow process getting comfortable with my new setup; and photographers, this is a reminder for you to immediately back up all of your actions and presets immediately so that you ..read more

Celebration Farm Wedding Pictures – Ethan & Megan’s Big Day

Two days after Thanksgiving, we spent the day with Ethan and Megan for their wedding at the Celebration Farm just outside of Iowa City. From our photographer’s perspective, we love shooting there because we don’t have to leave the property and it’s easy to make things look awesome. In late fall, it helps when you have a relatively perfect day as well! As I mentioned, we spent the entire day at the Celebration Farm, beginning with the girls getting their hair and makeup done. After they finished up, we took photos of Ethan getting dressed, which I’m relatively certain was the first time he has ..read more
