Hello Sewists, I recently was lucky enough to be a part of the Boys Sew Too catwalk presentation at ‘The Knitting & Stitching Show’ in London’s Alexandra Palace: Boys Sew Too, created by Clive Bruder, is ‘a movement to encourage and inspire men and boys to keep sewing’ – I’m sure you can imagine that’s a sentiment I can really get behind! The show looked great, of course I didn’t get to see it at the time, but managed to get a front row seat watching the posts from Nicole Akong (who was guest judge) and The Knitting & Stitching Shows on instagram – as well as the posts from the others ..read more

Darn-it!

Hello Sewists, You don’t often see me with a hand sewing needle, so this is a rare post! I haven’t done a lot of darning… ‘Successful-darning’ I’ve done even less of! My last attempt was on these gloves… it did the job, but is not winning any beauty contests! So it’s time for me to look for some outside help… I’ve been aware of these little looms for a while; you must have seen them popping up on your social media…? But it wasn’t until I saw Hélène (@hportemanteau) using one on instagram that I thought I’d bite the bullet and give it a go. After a quick search on Amazon I found a well priced ..read more

Hello Sewists! It’s been a long time since my last blog post! If you don’t follow me on Instagram it’s been over a year since we last met! Hello again old friend, how are you doing? Well, this new jacket has got me back on the blog! I’ve added a lining and used a combination of bagging-out and inter-lining to get the result I want. I’m so pleased with how it’s come out and I can’t wait to share it with you. The inspiration… I’ve been wanting to make a new Chore-Jacket for some time now. What’s slowed me down is not having the right pattern. My existing one doesn’t fit me very well around the s ..read more

Hello Sewists, I hope you are all doing well and feeling rested over the festive holidays. I’m back today with the final post on my raincoat – So far I’ve drafted a lining and added 3D pockets – this time it’s all about the hood… I’d planned to get this post out the week before Christmas, but I’m pleased to say (in direct contrast to last year…) I was too busy! – I feel relieved and just a little proud to have made it to the end of the working year without any dramatic incidents. I was going to hold-off from posting it over Christmas, but as I got time to relax I realised that there is a big d ..read more

Hello Sewists, I hope you are all keeping well? MrA and I are loving our life with Eloise – Work is keeping us both busy and we are looking forward to a bit of time off over the festive season. Following up from this post where I expressed difficulties getting the colours I wanted when fabric shopping online… it seems I find it equally challenging in real life! I made a special detour to nearby Goldhawk Road recently, with a one track mind… I wanted some grey corduroy to make the Veste le Citadin jacket from Patrons les BG – the guys in charge had kindly emailed me a pdf copy for free and afte ..read more

Hello Sewists, I’m back with the second instalment of my new raincoat – in the first post I adapted the patch pockets into 3D pockets and added magnetic closures, you can catch up with that HERE (if you want to!). I’m using the ‘Harry’ duffel coat pattern from La Maison Victor and I’m making quite a few modifications, not because it is a bad pattern – far from it – but because I’m not making a duffel coat… I’m making a rain coat, for the winter. so I need it to be rain proof, warm and have all the right pockets! I mentioned in the last post how (without buying swatches) the colours of the fabr ..read more

DIY: How to draft & sew 3D Pockets

Hello Sewists, As you may know, I live in London, UK and our weather can be… changeable… I used to be able to choose whether I went out in the rain or not… but now I have a dog, the choice is mostly out of my hands! When it comes to wet weather wear, I’ve made a few lightweight options before, but wanted to produce something more substantial this time; something both warm and waterproof. I started off with the duffel coat pattern, ‘Harry’, from a 2018 UK edition of La Maison Victor magazine. From there, I chose my fabrics. I bought them all online, and I’ll admit to being a little surprised by ..read more

Hello Sewists, Long time; no blog – my apologies! In my absence from here I have been on Instagram (@sewandrew – if you want to follow me there) and, as well as being busy in the salon, I’ve also been making some sewing videos (there’s a new one on YouTube and a couple more coming up that I will be able to tell you about very soon…!) Baseball Cap SewalongNew Boilersuit But it’s this boiler suit that has lured me back to the blog; as I said, I’ve been delving further into video making recently – and after being quite busy and hitting a couple of deadlines, I decided to make this boiler suit wi ..read more

This Summer’s Hot Dog

Hello Sewists, How are you doing? MrA & I are bubbling over with joy as we have recently welcomed a new member into our family… a little while ago we adopted Eloise Claudette, 20 month old french bulldog. We’ve both wanted a dog forever, and she has quickly become a significant member of our family! We made no choices with her: name, breed, sex … she found her way to us (through a reputable rehoming charity) just as she is, and she’s perfect. So we are learning all we can about french bulldogs, and one of the most important things to watch out for (in the summer) is over-heating. I read so ..read more
