◊ ‘This Is Us’ Says Goodbye: How a Drama Whose Original Pilot Script Wasn’t Written for Network Standards Changed Broadcast
https://variety.com/2022/awards/news/this-is-us-finale-broadcast-pilot-script-changes-emmys-1235282801/
My two-cent takeaway: As mentioned in the article, good writing is often considered easy to write. This is also evident when you tell people you’re a screenwriter, and they answer with an “I should do that too. I’ve got a bunch of stories I’d like to tell.” Unfortunately, this “writing is easy” mentality often clogs up ..read more

Director Colin Trevorrow on the set of Jurassic World Dominion.
It’s hard to believe that Steven Spielberg’s original Jurassic Park hit theaters way back in 1993, terrifying and inspiring a whole new generation of paleontologists and young dinosaur enthusiasts. Three decades later it seems we still haven’t learned our lesson about experimenting with ancient genetics and the second movie franchise reboot, Jurassic World, is reaching its climatic end with Jurassic World: Dominion.

◊ ‘Yellowjackets’ Creators Guess an ‘Anti-‘Ted Lasso’ Effect’ May Have Helped Their Grim Thriller
https://www.indiewire.com/2022/05/why-yellowjackets-hit-creators-anti-ted-lasso-interview-1234728334/
My two-cent takeaway: Ashley Lyle and Bart Nickerson talk about the flexibility required to get a show made and how you really need to love the idea that you’re pitching, and ultimately the script is only a tiny part of the final product. Even though the writing feels like everything, there’s some uncomfortable truth in knowing the script will not ..read more

If you’re like me and can’t get enough of Julian Fellowes’ female-driven family dramas, you most likely gobbled up each delicious episode of The Gilded Age on HBO and can’t wait for season two. But as good as the American-set show is, it just doesn’t scratch the same itch as our beloved Downton. Luckily, writer/creator/producer Fellowes has graced us with a second feature film about the Crawleys: Downton Abbey ..read more
