Am I outgrowing the internet or is the internet outgrowing me?

I’ve existed online for a very long time. Between Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, Tumblr, Vine, Snapchat and LinkedIn it’s actually quite difficult to figure out what about me isn’t floating around in the ether. Social media holds a decade-long catalogue of the music I like, the events I’ve attended, the cities I’ve traveled to and the jobs I’ve held. If you want to know where I went to school there’s a platform for that. A simple Google search will tell you more about me than most of my basic acquaintances would know.  This reality has never troubled me much. Despite early warnings about ..read more

November Releases I Can’t Stop Talking About
Olivia Lavery

Cold weather has arrived in Toronto and that means another frigid Canadian winter is surely soon to be upon us. Over the course of nearly two and a half decades I’ve learned that the only way to survive the winter season is to find ways to entertain myself indoors. And reading is the ultimate entertainment. So to help you get through the next month of descending temperatures, I’ve put together a list of the three books I can’t wait to get my hands on this month. I’ve been waiting for each of these novels for weeks, if not months, and can honestly say I’ve never been more exciting about a month ..read more

My Favourite Memoirs
Olivia Lavery
by Olivia Lavery

I almost always find myself drawn towards true stories in the last few months of the year. Maybe it’s because I’m searching for self-improvement tactics for the new year or maybe it’s because I’m so burnt out that I crave true tales of redemption and accomplishment. Either way I love a good memoir. I realized a few days ago that I’d had this list of my favourite memoirs idling in my drafts folder for more than a year. I think I’d been waiting to fini ..read more

Fall 2019 Reading Guide
Olivia Lavery
by Olivia Lavery

The warm weather may still be here, but I’m already bursting with excitement for my favourite reading season of the year. Fall is always when I find myself most absorbed in books, likely because the changing leaves and cooling weather creates the perfect atmosphere for curling up on the couch with a great read. While I’m always trying to read a range of genres, fall is inevitably high time to read thrillers, mysteries and police procedurals. Thril ..read more

What To Read If You Liked Fleabag
Olivia Lavery
by Olivia Lavery

Like many other avid television watchers out there, I am a massive fan of Phoebe Waller-Bridge’s Fleabag. The Amazon Prime Original show, which takes place in London, follows the story of a woman known only as Fleabag who, after the death of her mother and the loss of her best friend, has taken to using sexual promiscuity and general cynicism to cope with her life. The show, while hilarious and entertaining, can be deeply emotional and challenging a ..read more

There may still be a month of summer holidays left, but I’d imagine many of my readers are preparing to return to school in the fall. Whether you’re starting your freshman year of university or entering your last year of graduate studies, the beginning of the school year always feels like a time of anticipation and possibility. I’ve always thought college campuses were incredibly atmospheric, and that the inter-student dynamics make them the perfect ..read more

Travel Destinations For Book Lovers

Warm weather always sparks my wanderlust, leaving me daydreaming about booking trips to all the places I’ve never been. I’ve been lucky to be able to do quite a lot of exploring so far in my life, having spent a semester living abroad in Denmark during my undergraduate degree. But since I’ve started investing my time and energy into reading and writing about reading I’ve realized just how much books ignite my travel bug. Of course I can’t simply book a trip to every single place I read about. I definitely don’t have the time or money to do that. But that doesn’t mean I can’t daydream. Last wee ..read more

The Best Books For Summer 2019
Olivia Lavery
by Olivia Lavery

I’ve never been a fan of the term “beach read”, partially because I think it gets used a little flippantly at times and partially because I’ve never really been that much of a beach person. That being said, I do believe that some books are better suited for summer reading than others, and this year I’ve decided to put together a list of my top recommendations for the hot months. Though the books on this list are all unique and original, what they all ..read more
