Shopping Diet Update – 1 week in

It’s almost been a week since I decided to embark upon my shopping diet and I have to admit, it’s been a bit challenging to rewire my brain into new habits. However, I haven’t bought any clothes or cosmetics for myself. As I said at the start of this challenge, I can’t impose a complete shopping ban as I have a young family and the increasingly cold weather here in Canada means that children’s’ boots and mitts are on the horizon. What I am cutting out is the unnecessary spending. The little things that add up. A sweater on sale, a new lipstick when I pop into the pharmacy to pick up a prescrip ..read more

The Shopping diet days 2-3. Research time
The Millennigal

Okay so I might have been a little ambitious when I said that I would write daily. Let’s settle on a couple of times a week. So I’ve thrown myself in headfirst to this shopping diet thing. As per usual, I’m all in, I’m just hoping this one lasts. The first thing I’ve decided to do is what any history graduate would do, research. Almost fell at the first hurdle So I decided that I was steadfast in my mission. I was going to stop spending money on clothes and meaningless crap and NOTHING would get in my way. I was a woman with an iron will. A woman on a mission. Now, to get organized I thought ..read more

Chronicling my month combatting binge shopping. Day 1
The Millennigal

It’s been a minute since I’ve posted, but life got busy. I went back to work from mat leave, there was a pandemic, I started teaching online, I got a puppy, I went back to work in person, then we added a little baby boy to our family and I find myself on leave again. Apparently this blog is something I turn to when I’m off work with a little one at home. Something just for me. Just like shopping. In the 8 months or so that I’ve been on mat leave, I have found myself turning more often to online shopping. Boxes turn up, I’m happy, then I’m remorseful. It’s time for a change. So I’m going on a ..read more

Yes my friends, it’s time for another “what the heck do you wear in your 30s?” post. I was really surprised by the response I got to the last what the heck post and it has been a favourite on the Millennigal so I thought I’d give you guys an updated version seeing as the links etc. in the last post are over a year old and not really that relevant any more! So since I last connected with you I am still in somewhat of a thirties fashion limbo. Covid-19 has kinda forced me out of the shops an back online and I’m finding new places to shop for fashion that really fits where I am right now. It does ..read more

How I’m tackling Melasma. Tips for managing the tricky skin condition
The Millennigal

So you’re done with pregnancy and have a beautiful bundle to enjoy but there’s one hangover from your baby carrying days that refuses to go away. Melasma. Also known as the mask of pregnancy, melasma is a skin condition that affects the pigment causing it to darken. The outcome? Blotchy dark patches all over your previously clear face. It is estimated that as many as 70% of women develop melasma during pregnancy but research into why it sticks around for some women is quite patchy. It seems that melasma is a bit of a mystery in the dermatological world in many respects as it seems to strike a ..read more

Can you wear jean shorts in your 30s? Yes you can and here’s how to style them

A few posts ago I was lamenting about what the heck to wear in my 30s. It seems that these days all the stores contain fashions made for younger bodies and us 30 something ladies are left stranded in some strange fashion purgatory. Over the past year I’ve been trying different looks and thinking about who I am style wise at the ripe old age of 34. The one thing I’ve come to realise is you really are as young as you feel and that trends can be worn by anyone! why should the twenty-somethings have all the fun? One of my closet staples for the summer are jean shorts. I LOVE them. During covid I’v ..read more

Master Bedroom Makeover. How to wallpaper like a pro.

Being home for 6 months and picking apart every detail of my home finally spurred me to complete my long awaited master bedroom refresh. Here’s a little backstory. Because every blog post needs a back story (*insert eye roll from those of you here to get to the makeover stuff*) When I moved into my home 7 years ago the ENTIRE thing was painted in shades of brown. I am not exaggerating when I say this. It was like the realtor told the homeowners to go neutral (I can see the remnants of forest green and ruby red along the sockets) and they picked brown. Those of you who follow me know that brown ..read more

The un-sparking of joy. KonMari update 6 months on.

Ok, I am calling BS on the Marie Kondo method. After my joy filled rose tinted post several months ago about organizing my entire life I need to come clean about my fall from the organizational wagon. When the impossibly well presented Marie Kondo popped up onto my Netflix watch list in February I looked around at my living room which was strewn with various neon coloured bits of plastic and eyed the bulging drawers I daren’t open and felt decidedly non joyous. This sweet lady was offering to spark joy in my life and all I needed to do was throw out all of my things in return. Simple, easy, I ..read more

Musings On Friendship In Your 30s.
The Millennigal

It seems like your 30s are a decade of many questions and mysteries. Why are my veins sticking out? Is that a grey hair? Why don’t my shorts fit? What do I wear? How do I parent? Why can’t I sleep despite being perpetually exhausted? But one of the trickiest mysteries is why is it so blinking hard to make friends? Friendships throughout the years Humans are by nature pack animals. We seek out others to make tribes with and have done for millennia. Taking a look at our own lives, making friends throughout the years never seemed that much of a challenge. Lets go back in time for a moment. I ..read more

Hey friends, I know, I know it’s been a long time. I started off this blog guns blazing and I desperately wanted to create something that people would flock to amidst the saturated blog market. It started off swimmingly, I was featured in Scary Mommy  and I felt unstoppable. The response to the article was widely positive (of course some lovely people felt the need to minimize by feelings from behind their keyboards but that’s the internet for you) and it was amazing to have people from all over the world reach out to me. I was asked to be a part of a collection of expat stories for ..read more
