Department of Education’s New Title IX Rule Just as Bad as Expected
The Daily Signal
by Sarah Parshall Perry
57m ago
The Department of Education just released its long-delayed Title IX rule—a rewrite of the 50 year-old civil rights law so vast that it promises to turn Title IX’s guarantee of sex equality in education completely upside down.   Title IX of the Education Amendments Act of 1972 is all of a single sentence. It simply bars sex discrimination in any federally funded education program. It does not matter how much federal funding a school or institution of higher education receives. And it does not matter whether such funding from the federal government is direct or indirect. So yes, even the va ..read more

Third Republican Announces Support for Ousting Johnson as House Speaker
The Daily Signal
by Katrina Trinko
57m ago
A third House Republican has announced he will co-sponsor a motion to vacate introduced by Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, R-Ga., that, if passed, would end Mike Johnson’s tenure as House speaker after fewer than six months. If all 213 House Democrats vote in support of the motion to remove Johnson, R-Ky., as speaker, only three Republicans would need to cross over for the motion to carry, 216-215, once Rep. Mike Gallagher, R-Wis., resigns, as he plans to do imminently. Rep. Paul Gosar, R-Ariz., announced that he would join the Georgia Republican’s effort to oust Johnson, saying in a written stat ..read more

The Daily Signal
by Rob Bluey

House Speaker Mike Johnson lost more than 25% of his Republican conference Friday on a procedural vote to advance four foreign aid bills. The measure passed, 316-94, thanks to the support of Democrats, who typically oppose the majority party’s rules. In this case, however, Johnson, R-La., won the backing of 165 Democrats compared to 151 Republicans. A total of 39 Democrats and 55 Republicans voted against the procedural rule. (See a complete list of those GOP members below.) More Democrats voted on the Republican rule than Republicans – historic moment. This rule violated the agreement we h ..read more

On Earth Day, Americans Lose From Biden’s Alaska Oil Ban
The Daily Signal
by Diana Furchtgott-Roth
57m ago
Earth Day is Monday, and once again President Joe Biden is putting the American people last and environmentalists first with Friday’s actions making swaths of Alaska off limits to the development of oil, natural gas, and critical minerals.   America’s air is getting cleaner every year, and carbon emissions have declined by 1,000 million metric tons over the past 16 years. Even if America were to abandon all fossil fuels, global temperatures would only decline by two-tenths of 1 degree Celsius by 2100, according to government models. Oil prices are more than $80 per barrel, and Americans a ..read more

Are Iran’s 9 Lives Nearing an End?
The Daily Signal
by Ken McIntyre

The theocracy of Iran has been the world’s arch-embassy attacker over the last half-century. So Iran has zero credibility in crying foul over Israel’s April 1 attacks on its “consulate” in Damascus and the killing of Iran’s kingpin terrorists of the Revolutionary Guard Corps there. Remember, the world was first introduced to the Iranian ayatollahs by their violent takeover of the U.S. Embassy in Tehran in 1980. Iranian surrogates next bombed the American Embassy in Beirut and the Marine barracks there in 1983. In fact, Iran has attacked U.S. and Israeli diplomatic posts off and on for deca ..read more

Montana Hit With Lawsuit Over Sex-Change Policy for Birth Certificates, Driver’s Licenses
The Daily Signal
by Jason Hopkins
2h ago
Two transgender people sued Montana on Thursday, challenging a state policy that bars residents from changing the sex designations on their birth certificates unless they meet certain criteria. Jessica Kalarchik and an individual identified only as “Jane Doe” are listed as plaintiffs in a lawsuit challenging a state policy that, they argue, makes it “impossible” for transgender people born in Montana to change their birth certificates. The policy, which was finalized in 2022, prohibits individuals from changing the gender on their birth certificate, unless their gender was listed in ..read more

Differences Among States Are a Plus, Not a Bug, in Our System
The Daily Signal
by Lathan Watts

If those in federal office are willing to pay attention, the states are displaying the best—and the worst—of our republican form of government. Every four years, American citizens get the opportunity to express their satisfaction or dissatisfaction with the direction of the country, endorse a policy agenda for the nation, and hold the occupant of the highest office in our federal government to account for his leadership or lack thereof. But in the intervening years between what some treat as a national Rorschach test, lawmakers are the policymakers entrusted to express the will of the people ..read more

Biden’s Continuation of Obama’s Foreign Policy Fueling More Middle East Chaos
The Daily Signal
by David Harsanyi
3h ago
If a belligerent state launched 185 explosive drones, 36 cruise missiles, and 110 surface-to-surface missiles from three fronts against civilian targets within the United States, would President Joe Biden call it a “win”? Would the president tell us that the best thing we can do now is show “restraint”? What if that same terror state’s proxy armies had recently helped murder, rape, and kidnap more than 1,000 American men, women, and children? What if this terror state were trying to obtain nuclear weapons so it could continue to agitate without any consequences? This is what Biden and the Bara ..read more

Hold Obama-Biden Foreign Policy Responsible for Iran’s Unprecedented Attack on Israel
The Daily Signal
by Josh Hammer
3h ago
The terrorist Iranian regime’s unprecedented recent attack on Israel, which included 185 drones, 36 cruise missiles and 110 surface-to-surface missiles, is an unambiguous casus belli—an act of war—under international law. Of course, Iranian proxies spread across the Middle East, such as Lebanon-based Hezbollah, Gaza-based Palestinian Islamic Jihad, and the Yemen-based Houthis, have committed countless previous acts of war against Israel. But last weekend was something different entirely: For the very first time since fanatical Islamists overthrew Shah Mohammad Reza Pahlavi and took power in 19 ..read more

House Showdown: Vote Looms on Biden’s Foreign Aid Package Despite Conservative Dissent
The Daily Signal
by Rob Bluey
8h ago
A proposed House rule faces a crucial vote Friday in the latest showdown between Speaker Mike Johnson and Republican lawmakers. The rule would combine four unrelated foreign aid bills into a single legislative package—an approach favored by President Joe Biden but long resisted by conservatives. Johnson, R-La., has pledged that lawmakers will get to vote on each of the four bills individually. However, following those separate votes, the bills will be consolidated into a $95.3 billion unified package without further deliberation. This combined legislation would then be sent to the Senate, wher ..read more
