The Pros and Cons of Being a Relational Leader
Church Planting
by Travis Stephens
1w ago
I’m going to go out on a limb here and say that most small-town pastors tend to be very relational. It’s hard to get hired as a pastor in a small town if you’re not. Most small-town churches are looking for a shepherd that will do a good job tending to the congregation. If you care for people, show up at hospitals and funeral homes, and preach pretty well, you are a great pastoral candidate.   Difficult to grow a church beyond 200 people   What’s interesting is it’s often very hard for a relational leader to grow a church beyond 200 people or so. There are just too many relationships ..read more

Balancing Between My Yes and No as a Leader
Church Planting
by Ron Edmondson
2w ago
It seems I’m constantly balancing between my yes and no as a leader. As a leader, I prefer to say yes. I love it when someone comes to me with a proposal for a new ministry or a new idea, and I can simply say, “Yes, go for it!” I love being the guy who gets to encourage another person’s big dream. I am not a fan of micromanaging. Saying yes allows me to empower others to do their work well. Even so, in my position, I often have to say “No”. Some days it feels like that’s all I get to say. I have to consider the amount of money and energy expended as it relates to the entire church organization ..read more
