DIY Toaster Sweater

It’s just a jumper, but I’ve always really loved the Sew House Seven Toaster Sweater even though I’ve only made one… This one is my second. I really love the look and the fit of this jumper and in this jogging sweater knit from Wattle Hill Fabric it’s so very soft and yummy to wear – The first time I made this jumper my fabric choice was pretty but not practical. The fabric didn’t have enough stretch and it was uncomfortably hot to wear. I found I didn’t wear it because if I got too hot, I struggled to get the jumper off over my head and it didn’t do my hair any favours so I passed it on. Th ..read more

DIY Button Up Linen Hacked Chamomile Crop Top

Cute little top in a lovely self-stripe lightweight linen from Tessuti that I drafted up starting with the Chamomile crop top. The pattern isn’t quite right… the darts sit waay too low for me – not sure if it’s designed for the no bra movement???? But it needs a bit more adjusting/maybe I need to learn how to do a full bust adjustment or something like that. I had planned to perfect this pattern and make a few in different colours and prints but I’ve lost a bit of my sewing mojo where pattern adjusting needs to take place. I just want to cut up some pretty fabric, sew it into something lovely ..read more

DIY Quilted Art/Sketch/Coloured Pencil Bag

This is a little zippered pouch with zippered pages for sketching/coloured pencils. It’s a cool little book/bag (idk what to call it exactly?) but I gotta tell you, it wasn’t an enjoyable project to put together and I started to regret my pattern choice pretty quickly! What made it so tricky was needing to sew the pages RST around sandwiched zippers and in tight little corners where my presser foot just didn’t want to go – which just made for some really messy sewing around some of the corners and a bit cursing on my part. I made this for my mum for her birthday (and she loves it, der lol), an ..read more

Kids Sea Themed Patchwork Quilt

My little guy needed a quilt for his bed in the caravan which was a good enough excuse for me to make another patchwork quilt And it was finished just in time for our last trip a couple of weeks ago which was good timing as the nights had started getting quite cool and he definitely needed it. The colours in these fabrics are stunning – I seriously couldn’t go past them and the sea theme is perfect for the caravan and of course my young man loves the colours and prints too! I do want to have a go at making more intricate patchwork quilts, but I get so distracted by beautiful prints and end u ..read more

Lady McElroy Dawn Top and Crinkle Linen Tula Pants

Another easy and comfy Summer outfit. I loved the pink checked crinkle linen Tula pants I made a few weeks ago so much that as soon as I’d finished making them, I was on the hunt for more crinkle linen. They are so perfect for a lightweight option to cover up my legs to protect them from the sun and also in the evenings if I’m outside and want to keep any midges off. The only problem with these pants is that the linen is so lightweight, it’s a little see-through. I knew this might be the case when I bought the linen as it said something like that in the description but I was hoping that becaus ..read more

Leopard Print Linen Ocean Daze Shirt and Double Cotton Gauze Tula Shorts

This outfit is a duplicate of my last post… except I actually made this one first. – This is the Ocean Daze shirt by Pattern Emporium in the dress length and a lovely linen from Pitt Trading – which looks as though it has sold out already. The shorts are the Tula Pants from Papercut Patterns this time in a double cotton gauze from Wattle Hill Fabrics. I’m so happy with how this outfit and the last have turned out. Much more exciting than the standard RTW linen shirts that I was wearing to the beach. I had never really thought about making my own linen shirt cover-ups before seeing the Ocean Da ..read more

Ocean Daze Linen Shirt and Crinkle Linen Tula Shorts

Yeah I did! Pink on pink Not to brag or anything, but we spend a fair bit of time at the beach and because I burn easily and am not a huge fan of covering myself in sunscreen – I opt to slip, slop and slap… That is slip on a long sleeve linen shirt, slop some sunscreen on my face and slap on a hat. So long sleeve linen shirts are a staple for me which is why when I saw Pattern Emporium’s new Ocean Daze shirt I knew it was time to update my beach uniform! And how cool is this shirt? I mean, I love white linen shirts and everything but… I’m pretty sure I’ll be the only one at the beach in an a ..read more

Latest Blending and Spinning Experiments

My latest new colour/fibre blending experiments on the spinning wheel. I love spinning but it definitely falls in second place next to sewing especially when most of my sewing makes are to fill holes in my wardrobe and blending and spinning is more of a creative process and for fun…. but I’m hoping to get a lot more spinning in soon so I can get this yarn turned into wearable for winter this year… and because I have bags of fibre taking up too much space in my sewing room!!! The nice thing about spinning is that I can watch stuff while I work… Not so easy when I’m sewing… but when I feel the n ..read more

Strawberry Print Nadine Shirt

How can I not have a strawberry print top? One of the first fabrics I ever bought when I initially pulled out the sewing machine my nan gave me, had a strawberry print on it. I found it at the markets – it was a quilting cotton and I made a bag out of it. And as much as I LOVE florals I really really love a good strawberry print! It somehow feels like an essential thing to have in my wardrobe somewhere and almost like a right of passage. Or maybe it’s just my love of shabby chic and cottage-core styles. Red isn’t normally a go-to colour for me, but when I saw this print on a cotton poplin at M ..read more

Cherry Print Art Supply Ernest Bag
Lauren Van Der Mast

This cute little cherry print art supply bag is a special gift for a special friend. Last year I had some major health problems that really affected my whole family and one of my friends really helped me out in a way we needed the most. She also likes sketching and coloured pencils and bags so I decided to make her a bag, especially for her art supplies as a thank you. This fabric print on canvas from Minerva was exactly what I was looking for! The bindings and lining are leftovers I already had – so there are a few little print changes on the inside of the bag but all keeping with the red, w ..read more
