The Failed Endeavor of Charles Buell Anderson
Cwyn's Death By Tea

Charles Buell Anderson Photo findagrave.com This is one of those stories I have to get down. I am divesting myself of the shit that happens that you cannot make up. In this rather bewildering story, I managed to meet a worldwide cult leader and walked away mostly unawares. Wisconsin is full of cult-y people; actually the whole world is, and has ever been so since Adam said hello to the snake and decided to listen to it. I run into weirdos like this all the time, and the story is mostly the same. Back around 1993 or so I had a part time job in social work, not full-time because my son ..read more

Burial Plans
Cwyn's Death By Tea

By coincidence we are on the last day of 2022, but I have to get real. Plans have to be made for disposal of the tea collection. For a few years now I’ve been comforted by the plan I had of a tea vendor to pick up my tea etc in the event of my demise. Offer my son a few dollars, he will be glad to be rid of it all in one UHaul.  But this is all starting to feel a bit personal hygiene. Nobody is going to want my lovingly tea stained puerh ware. Let’s face it, because that’s what it is. It’s akin to one’s underwear. Anyone who hoards, and I’m not saying that’s me, or you, but the fact is ..read more

2022 CSH Jiang Xin Sample Box
Cwyn's Death By Tea

I just cannot say no to free tea. Nobody teaches a puerh tea lover this skill, and whatever about tea drinking that is supposed to teach moderation, well this lesson that has thus far escaped me. Really I am not planning to continue tea reviewing, but when CSH messaged me on Instagram asking if I want their new sample box, what I managed to type was "thank you for thinking of me." And left it at that. Next I got an email with a shipping number.  CSH offered this sample box free to 500 people back in September. After reaching 500, the sample box was to sell another few hundred at around ..read more

The end of the line on this blog is closer now. I am not quite there yet, but I can see the end of Old Cwyn and her tea insanity. Nature, and probably poor nuture combined, are having their way with me slowly but surely. While I have no immediate plans to end our tea writing, we are getting to where plans must be made going forward. At the beginning of this blog, in the very first entry, I wrote that I planned to drink tea to my death, and I will do everything I can to accomplish this goal. But days are coming where I know I will be stuck and need to ease myself into sliding out of writing. My ..read more

Puerh Personalities
Cwyn's Death By Tea

Recently I found myself reading along in the social blogger-sphere and somebody has the idea to consider the puerh hobby as a personality type. This is probably accurate and I am only glad to be part of such a club, even if I am the last to be picked for dodgeball. Only problem is, the concept as a whole needs some fleshing out in subtypes. I am happy to do that today, now that I am at least nine cups in, I may have lost count. Anyway, here goes: Peacocks  These puerh people only buy special editions and socially desirable long-sold-out teas. Their tea is all about the wrapper. They o ..read more

A tea colored car. Actually it belongs to my ex who lives in Guangzhou. I still have puerh on the brain after all these years and my recent storm disaster is not enough to knock it out of me. Especially when I discover teas in my house I apparently forgot about. I find myself thinking more about the puerh beginner after my last post. What a world they have yet to discover! Most of what you discover about tea is for your appreciation and probably yours alone.  This weekend I am thoroughly worn out from storm cleanup and days spent on the phone with insurance companies, disaster re ..read more

My roof  This week an EF-2 strength tornado ripped an eight mile long swath through my small town at 90 mph. It ripped out trees, branches and other debris, caving in roofs and damaging vehicles, including my house and car. I have a lot of damage to contend with, and am awaiting the insurance adjuster to come out and take a look. In the meantime we have patched the roof and boarded up a broken window. The incoming water doesn't seem to have done much damage. I am fortunate to have old growth wood in my house structure, as well as plaster board. The weather turned dry after the st ..read more

2018 Sun Fu Zhuan by white2tea
Cwyn's Death By Tea

Back in January I received a box of teas from white2tea containing a lot more than I expected. Twodog had asked me back in November if I wanted some more Fu Brick, and who is going to say no to that? The box contained a full kilo of 2018 Sun Fu, and also a couple of chunks from unnamed Fu bricks that were rejected by white2tea, so a bit of leftover sample teas. I also got two full baskets of the new Liu'An offerings. I clarified that these baskets are 2019, but there is no real way of distinguishing which are which, unless I am missing something, I don't see any labels on them. I also receiv ..read more

Cwyn's Death By Tea

Winter is a blur this year. My heating bill for January came in more than twice the amount of last year, putting the brakes on any sort of tea shopping, and mercifully a New Year shipping shutdown halts any temptation. With the extreme cold I have to do laundry daily to keep the pipes from freezing. The cat is sick and I am doing 20 hour days with him. So I missed the message in my Instagram PMs for two weeks from what appeared to be the account of Chen Sheng Hao. Normally I get messages from really sketch tea companies on IG who usually a) follow my account, b) drop likes on 10 really old pho ..read more

One Year One Kilo Fu One Year Later
Cwyn's Death By Tea
by

A year spent drinking a 1 kilo brick of Fu Zhuan tea is sufficiently long enough to consider Fu a personal dietary component. Finally the thing is gone, my 2012 CNNP Fu Zhuan kilo brick I purchased for $61 some years ago. I feel amazed to have finished it, not because of the brick size but just that I drank Fu Zhuan as a daily drinker tea for a full year, sticking with it and for the most part, I enjoyed it.  Back when it still existed. My winter friends. The 2012 brick was not as stellar a tea as had been hyped on tea forums when I bought it. I have a feeling that the hype is a ..read more
