My first boat and first build MadFoxMakes Tue, 03/19/2024 - 13:34 "If you want something nice, build it yourself." I've wanted a boat most of my life but was never in a position to afford or transport one. But, last summer I decided I couldn't wait any longer and attempted building my first boat. 400 labor hours and countless new woodworking skills later it was done! I am now the proud owner of a 15' Rangeley Cedar Strip Lake boat, and it is a beauty. I ordered the plans from Newfound Woodworks but sourced and milled all of my own materials. The boat sports a cedar hull, ash keel, mahogany se ..read more

Honey Bee , a 1957 Speedicraft runabout David M Jones Mon, 01/01/2024 - 14:44 In the summer of 2008, David M Jones of Suwanee Georgia was given a 1957 Speedicraft designed by Otis Borum of Jacksonville Florida.  The Honey Bee’s deck, transom and 25 percent of her hull were rotten.  Dave approached his Father, Morris A. (Pete) Jones Jr., of Durham, NC, with the restoration project assuring him it would take up space in his ping pong room next to his wood shop at Kerr Lake, NC for just a few months .  Five years later the majority of the woodwork was done.  The remainder of ..read more

Kvack Art_Haberland Wed, 10/11/2023 - 19:54 Named for feisty duck in Hagar the Horrible, this small boat is a Milgate Duck Punt. Built of plywood in the "stitch and glue" method, she was built from the free plans found online and launched at the Mid-Atlantic Small Craft Festival in St. Michaels MD on October 6. Painted in a rather vibrant "malarkey green" carrying tanbark sails with the distinctive duck shaped "DP" logo, she is a rather posh version of the punt with fore and aft decks and mahogany hardwoods used inside and out. I have tried to keep her true to her humble beginnings as a hunte ..read more
