Drake Maye comes to New England as the potential next franchise quarterback for the Patriots.
The No. 3 overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft brings plenty of fire to the Patriots as one aspect of a deeper competitive profile. Patriots de facto general manager Eliot Wolf learned about that profile leading up to the draft and came away with two key characteristics that shaped his perception of the North Carolina product.
“The talent and the person,” Wolf shared on “The Adam Schefter Podcast” on Tuesday. “He’s a great person. He’s tough. He’s gritty. He was productive. He elevated those aro ..read more

The New England Patriots retained one of their own receivers in Kendrick Bourne, signed an external free agent in K.J. Osborn and drafted a pair of physically-gifted wideouts in second-rounder Ja’Lynn Polk and fourth-rounder Javon Baker.
It’s not that New England doesn’t have players at the position — they have a plenty.
But would the Patriots have benefited from signing veteran Tyler Boyd? Boyd, who reportedly agreed to terms with the Tennessee Titans on Tuesday, earned a modest one-year, $4.5 million contract.

It was well-known the New England Patriots started interviewing candidates for their next personnel position. What was still up in the air, however, was the title of said personnel position.
Well, it seems we now know.
The Patriots registered the job title with the league office Wednesday, according to Sports Illustrated’s Albert Breer. The title: executive vice president of football operations.
Patriots director of scouting Eliot Wolf, who had final say during the NFL draft and throughout the offseason, is viewed as the favorite for the position.

Tom Brady was knocked around like a piñata Sunday during Netflix’s live roast of the legendary NFL quarterback.
Nothing was off-limits as part of the special, which included jokes about Brady’s divorce from Gisele Bündchen, Aaron Hernandez and the QB sticking it to Bill Belichick by leaving the New England Patriots for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Except one topic: Brady’s kids.
Nikki Glaser, a well-known comedian who participated in the roast, revealed such Monday on “The Howard Stern Show,” before then changing course and dropping a joke she ultimately cut from her segment.

Nikki Glaser didn’t pull many punches during “The Roast of Tom Brady,” and she was thrilled to see Brady himself follow suit at the end of the night.
While appearing on “Jimmy Kimmel Live” on Tuesday night, Glaser, who had arguably the best set of anyone, said she was pleasantly surprised to see Brady go after megastar Kim Kardashian, who was in the crowd after she made a few jokes at Brady’s expense.
“I know Kim was terrified to be here tonight,” Brady said of Kardashian. “Not because of this, but because her kids are at home with their dad (Kanye West).”

Did the Patriots need to take another quarterback in the 2024 NFL Draft after selecting one third overall? Probably not.
But when an intriguing opportunity was presented to New England in the penultimate round, the organization couldn’t resist.
The Patriots selected Joe Milton III in the sixth round (193rd overall) on the final day of the draft in Detroit. Milton was taken 190 picks after fellow signal-caller Drake Maye, who New England clearly sees as its next franchise quarterback in the near future.

The New England Patriots reportedly wanted to use their second pick in the 2024 NFL Draft on wide receiver Xavier Legette — not Ja’Lynn Polk. But that doesn’t mean they weren’t high on Polk entering the three-day event.
ESPN NFL insider Jeremy Fowler reported New England rated Polk among its top six or seven receivers in the class. However, Legette was a bit higher on that list, per Fowler.
The Patriots reportedly tried to trade into the back end of the first round, possibly with Legette in mind. But ultimately the Buffalo Bills opted to trade down with the Panthers rather than Patriot ..read more

“The Roast of Tom Brady” overdelivered expectations with nothing off limits, including the former New England Patriots quarterback’s romantic life.
Brady’s ex-wife Gisele Bündchen reportedly felt “disappointed” by the divorce jokes in the special. And there also was a shot thrown at the 46-year-old’s ex-girlfriend Bridget Moynahan, too.
“Tom, you’re the best to ever play for too long, you retired then came back then retired, I get it. It’s hard to walk away from something that isn’t your pregnant girlfriend,” comedian Nikki Glaser said, per the New York Post. “To be fair, he didn’t kno ..read more

Rourke, who was released by the New England Patriots on Monday, has been claimed off waivers by the New York Giants, as first reported by NFL Media’s Tom Pelissero.
The Patriots released the 25-year-old Rourke after drafting a pair of quarterbacks in the 2024 NFL Draft. Rourke was set to enter the offseason programs behind Jacoby Brissett, Drake Maye, Bailey Zappe and Joe Milton III.

Those watching could sense the awkwardness between Robert Kraft and Bill Belichick during a cringeworthy moment late in “The Roast of Tom Brady.”
But to hear Julian Edelman and Drew Bledsoe tell it, and to hear what they recalled from the green room well before Kraft’s public praise of Belichick and the ensuing on-stage shot, well, it all but confirms the tension.
“Bill’s opening up, he’s having fun,” Edelman said of the backstage moment while hosting Bledsoe on his “Games with Names” podcast released Monday. “He’s talking war stories, talking rookie skits, talking fun (expletive) — do ..read more
