Fine art collage artists and the perfect creative studio atmosphere.  When I am creating a new collage painting - if I can hear the paint on my brush smooshing across the collage canvas….well, then it is too darn quiet! Rock, Classic R & B, Jazz, and Electronica, all feed my desire for lively and participant-friendly music.  Whether played on a disposable boom box or on a classy CD player, I love my music. I dance around my tables and easel, boldly dip my brush into the globs of paint on my palette and play with the possibilities of sharing my creativity with the blank space on the collage ..read more

A fine art collage artists studio is always neat and tidy until mixed media materials are introduced! These pictures are worth a thousand words, maybe even a million (depending on the mixed media materials and fine art collage materials in the photographs). Well, it’s hard to keep up when the creative juices are flowing and new collage paintings are being created.  The new collage art needs to be done TODAY, but the studio can be cleaned tomorrow….or the day after that. Or maybe the mixed media collage materials are the “clean” studio…. What signals that a clean-up is necessary is when the wo ..read more

As the year draws to an end I reflect not only on the new collage artwork I created but also the manner in which I created them to see where I can improve and add to my routine.  As many collage artists know - collage art is an ever-evolving process and improvements or updates to styles and materials are always on the table. Every once in a while I like to examine my collage mixed media materials and see whether they are truly doing what I want them to do as I place them on the new collage paintings. The past year I worked a lot with paper and paint and layering them to tell the stories contai ..read more

My best collage art of 2019 - as seen by a collage artist As I wrap up the year I am tempted to reflect on the past year’s creative process in producing new collage art. I am struck at how versatile artists can be as they evolve their artwork and create new pieces. In retrospect, I started out the year with a new style - figurative art collage. This style differed greatly from my previous style of Abstract Art Collage in that instead of focusing on how colors balance out the design of collage elements, I focused instead of moving the viewers eye through a narrative that the artwork told. Collage artists finishes a new figurative collage artwork. Before I can move on to the next phase of my new mixed media collage painting I have to make sure that the heart issue from the previous step has been addressed.  I painted these hearts until only 15 remained on the artwork.  Count them! There are still 3 white ones. The rest are red. This is clearly more manageable to the viewer’s eye and especially to mine.  I am now happier with the directi ..read more

The new figurative collage is peppered with new materials as the painting’s textures begin to take shape. The next phase of my new figurative collage painting takes me on a journey of glue!  This is a fun process of placing mixed media materials on the new artwork and creating the textures, shapes, and colors that will be the final collage painting. I take all the pieces that I have placed in the last steps and make sure that they all work on the figurative collage.  All the pieces seem to work and so I begin glueing down everything. I start with the lower third of the collage painting and p ..read more
