Unlike cutting down a tree, harvesting bamboo does not result in the death of the “tree.” Bamboo is not a tree at all, but rather a massive grass. Annual harvesting of bamboo strengthens the clump and improves the quality of future yield. Similar to how fruit trees are pruned to revitalize the tree for the next fruit harvest. When we started the Yantza-Farm in Ecuador, back in 2016 (History) it was degraded pasture on a steep hill with 3 mandarin trees and 1 banana trunk.
