As the cost-of-living crisis intensifies across the United Kingdom, more than half of workers find themselves having to forgo their traditional Christmas breaks, as financial constraints make taking time off unfeasible for the majority.

Hampshire, 24 October 2023 – With the latest ONS data showing a ‘loosening’ job market, quarterly data from the UK’s leading independent job board, CV-Library, reveals that job applications for the third quarter (July, August, September) have reached record levels, even surpassing quarter three in 2020 – the remarkable period where applications surged following the first lockdown.
The data reveals that total job applications for quarter three are up +41% year on year, an incredible +57% compared to 2021, and 1% higher than the extraordinary post-lockdown period in 2020.

The latest job market data from the UK’s leading independent job board, CV-Library, reveals that in August 2023 the number of applications per job jumped by over a third to 38.3% year on year.
The job board analysed the thousands of job posts advertised on its site over the month, as well as the millions of job applications made to these roles, to work out the average application-to-job ratio in August, traditionally a quieter month in recruitment. The last time this ratio was higher was almost three years ago, in January 2021.

Hampshire 14 August The traditional summer holiday is cancelled for an incredible 56% of UK workers this year as the cost of living bites.
