I Had a Wonderful time on the What About..? podcast
Musings of a Scary Horror Writer.

I love doing podcasts and talking about my love of horror. It’s honestly one of my favorite things to spread my passion to as many others as I can. I’ve been solely pushing CURSES! a lot lately, so this one was a breath of fresh air. I’ve known Jason for years, having met him back when I was working with a lot of comic book companies. This was the first time I’d met Danny, but he was a pleasure to talk to as well. Their podcast What About..? takes a guest and focuses on a specific subject they’re passionate about, then you do a deep dive on it. Here are just a few examples: They talked about ..read more

10/31/23 – OCTOBER HORROR MOVIE PICK #31 – Zombie (1979)

It’s Halloween. The holiest of days for the fear crowd. And every year on this holy day I say pretty much the same damn thing. There are a special batch of movies I hold off on posting about. They’re in that “holy grail” category, and no matter how badly I want to talk about them, I save them. They deserve Halloween. They deserve the pedestal. Saying that, it’s finally time to Lucio Fulci’s masterpiece Zombie on this list. I love this movie for so many reasons it hurts. Here is the brief IMDB synopsis: Strangers searching for a young woman’s missing father arrive at a tropical island where a d ..read more

10/30/23 – OCTOBER HORROR MOVIE PICK #30 – Dark Harvest (2023)

It’s funny, in the world of horror, there are only a select few quality actually-set-ON-Halloween horror movies. Sure there’s the Halloween series, and a handful of other perennial classics, but most of them out there are sadly pretty subpar. So it’s nice to see another quality actually-set-on-Halloween movie get released. While it’s not without its flaws, I found Dark Harvest super fun. Here is the brief IMDB synopsis: In a small Midwestern town, a deadly annual ritual unfolds when the mythical nightmare, Sawtooth Jack, rises from the cornfields and challenges the town’s teenage boys in a blo ..read more

10/29/23 – OCTOBER HORROR MOVIE PICK #29 – Saw X

Saw is one of those franchises that occasionally slips through the cracks for me. I like it just fine, and the traps are consistently clever, but it’s never fully risen to the top of the franchise universe for me personally. I think it’s because over the course of 10 films, there have been some hits and some misses in my eyes. Storywise, occasionally it feels clunky and just reliant on the gore to fill the gaps. Well, call me shocked when I say that I think Saw X is actually my favorite film of the entire franchise. I know, I’m as surprised as you! First, here is the brief IMDB synopsis: A sic ..read more

10/28/23 – OCTOBER HORROR MOVIE PICK #28 – Skinamarink

I couldn’t do a 2023 list of horror movies without mentioning Skinamarink. This movie took the horror world by storm earlier this year. It’s probably the most divisive movie of the year. Some people absolutely hate it and think it’s just a boring waste of time. But others, like myself, think it’s an utterly unique, haunting, dark art piece that can present a willing participant a completely one-of-a-kind experience. But it does require something from the viewer in order to do this. More on that in a moment. First, here is the brief IMDB synopsis: Two children wake up in the middle of the night ..read more

No surprise for today’s choice, right? STREAM HERE: https://tv.apple.com/us/show/curses/umc.cmc.4zami3bauzt4rzxhh4tzfmrfl For the first TV show that I’ve picked for this (usually, movie) list, sorry, but it’s going to be, well, mine. Today is the culmination of 6+ years of work. From early idea creation, to developing, to pitching, to selling, to more developing, to more pitching, to locking in a distributor, to MORE developing, to the many, many, many stages of production, to finalizing, to promotion, to… today. Today, October 27th, 2023, CURSES! is finally unveiled to the world. And I couldn ..read more

10/26/23 – OCTOBER HORROR MOVIE PICK #26 – I See You (2019)

I See You is a really interesting movie. To be honest, it was a partial blind watch for me, and I always love discovering a flick this way. My wife is not a horror movie fan so I was scanning to find something that looked more like a thriller than pure horror, so she could watch. I had heard very little about I See You, but the tile and description looked cool and I took a chance on it. And I’m so glad I did because there ended up being something in it for both of us. Here is the brief IMDB synopsis: A policeman and his doctor wife have some marriage problems and the son blames the mother. For ..read more

10/25/23 – OCTOBER HORROR MOVIE PICK #25 – Final Destination (2000)

Occasionally there’s a movie that, for the life of me, I thought I’d already put on this list. After writing about Sole Survivor yesterday, it obviously got me thinking about Final Destination. Granted, I had already put Final Destination 2 on here years ago (because it’s my favorite of the series), but it’s time to give the original some much deserved love. Here is the brief IMDB synopsis: Alex Browning is among a group of high school students on a trip to Europe. He suddenly has a premonition their airplane will crash, he screams to warn the others but is thrown off of the plane, and the pla ..read more

10/23/23 – OCTOBER HORROR MOVIE PICK #23 – The Vigil (2019)

Somehow I missed The Vigil when it first came out. I kept hearing quite a bit about this film when it first made the rounds, but somehow it just eluded me. So this was a recent watch and MAN did it hit me. Honestly this may be one my favorite watches of the year, even though it came out a few years back. It’s smart and simple, yet completely original. And it really deals out the scares. Here is the brief imdb synopsis: A man providing overnight watch to a deceased member of his former Orthodox Jewish community finds himself opposite a malevolent entity, in writer-director Keith Thomas’ electri ..read more
