Birth/Rebirth by Laura Moss To say it’s been a while since I’ve done anything close to resembling a review would be an understatement, (cough cough, three years, cough) but it just so happens that I watched something recently that struck a chord. The impression this film left on me coupled with more than a handful of eye-roll inducing reviews was enough for me to get up, grab my laptop, and start writing. Birth/Rebirth is a dark sci-fi/horror film starring Judy Reyes and Marin Ireland that tackles subject matter that most would either find unsettling or uninteresting altogether. After a ..read more

Unhinged — Horror Movie Review

Unhinged by Derrick Borte It’s rare that a film moves me in such a way that I immediately get up off the couch, pour a glass of wine, sit down at my laptop and write a review. The movie Unhinged, starring fat Russell Crowe, is one of the first movies in a very long time that caused such a reaction. When I say that this movie is one of the worst movies I have ever seen, I wholeheartedly mean it. The one good thing about this film, because I at least tried to find something to like, was Russell Crowe. He was absolutely detestable. He is a wonderful villain and the violent terrors he inflicted o ..read more

#Alive — Horror Movie Review

#Alive by Il Cho While it may not explore any original ground, Netflix’s #Alive at least brings enough to the table to entertain during its short runtime. It’s been awhile since any new zombie flicks have come out, and to be fair, I’ve been a bit burnt out on them anyway, so I haven’t really been keeping my eyes peeled like I used to. What really got me interested was that it was a South Korean release and honestly very few SK horror movies have disappointed me, so I gave it a shot. While it seems to be geared toward the streamer and influencer crowds, #Alive uses social m ..read more

The Lie — Horror Movie Review

The Lie by Veena Sud Recently, I stumbled across a couple of new films on Amazon Prime with a friendly “welcome to the Blumhouse,” in the synopsis. I vaguely remember hearing something about a series of films that were coming soon and so I decided to dive in. While Blumhouse is known for their horror — whether it be good or bad I’m not here to debate at the moment — I can’t say that there was much horror in what I’ve seen so far. This particular review is on Peter Sarsgaard and Mireille Enos (neither of whom are strangers to the horror genre) feature The Lie. The film starts off simply e ..read more

Attack of The Unknown — Horror Movie Review

Attack of the Unknown by Brandon Slagle As a reviewer, I try to keep an open mind and forgive a lot when it comes to low budget, indie films and I tend to go into them with semi-low expectations. Everyone knows I love a good alien movie and I love a good action/sci-fi, but did I love recent release Attack of The Unknown? Unfortunately, I cannot say that I did. There’s one word that can sum up this movie and that word is inconsistent. It felt, far too often, that I was watching two different films and the first act could honestly be cut out of the movie completely and it would not make a ..read more

Dark Encounter — Horror Movie Review

Dark Encounter by Carl Strathie A year after a young girl’s disappearance, a family gathers at their home after her memorial service and discovers they’re not alone as the night brings something sinister and otherworldly with it. If you watched the trailer for Dark Encounter or seen the poster art and you’re not a complete airhead, then you know this movie has aliens in it. That’s what drew me to it in the first place as I love a good flick with some extraterrestrial beings shaking things up. Unfortunately, the best way I can describe this movie is to compare it to disappointing se ..read more

We Summon The Darkness by Marc Meyers When you’ve got a synopsis that contains satanism, cults, metal, road trips, and the 80s, you had better bring it on during the film. We Summon The Darkness, starring Alexandria Daddario, set a high bar for itself and, unfortunately, was not able to muster up the strength to even climb over it when all was said and done. Three girlfriends set out on a road trip to see one of their favorite metal bands in concert amidst a cult induced satanic panic in 1988. Vivarium — Horror Movie Review

Vivarium by Lorcan Finnegan Since the ‘50s, most horror and science fiction films are molded by the social commentary of their respective eras or stand as allegory for something deeper or relevant. In the case of Vivarium, it shouldn’t take one long to figure out what the deeper meaning is and soon you find yourself strapping in for a bizarre ride through a fabricated suburban nightmare. Imogen Poots and Jesse Eisenberg star as Gemma and Tom, a young couple looking to purchase their first home together. Right off the bat, the real estate agent is an unnerving gentleman whom I personally ..read more

1BR — Horror Movie Review

1BR by David Marmor I’m all about cults in my horror movies; I love ‘em! Especially when done well, and that’s why I definitely recommend the recently released 1BR to anyone who is a fan of creepy cults, especially creepy cults who basically give you no choice in joining them. I mean, really, do the manipulative bastards that recruit for the cults and prey upon the weak really give them a choice when it all comes down to it? No, not really, not at all, but the way they go about it in 1BR is surely a rough ride for main character Sarah (Nicole Brydon Bloom) when she moves i ..read more
