By Jared Keene BostonLax Correspondent WESTWOOD – Bill Daye is about as competitive as they come. The Thayer Academy head coach gets that competitiveness from his days as a player. For those who may not know, or remember, Daye played professionally as a goalie for the Boston Cannons in 2001 and 2002, earning all-pro honors both seasons. Injuries unfortunately forced him to retire early, but he later got into coaching, even guiding the Cannons from 2006-2011. So when Daye was asked to coach Team ISL in Tuesday night’s 12th annual BostonLax All-American Game, he accepted and had one thing on hi ..read more

CAMBRIDGE – From the first game at Cawley Stadium in Lowell 23 years ago, to the days at Nickerson Field, Harvard Stadium and Quincy, when it comes to passionate fan bases for professional lacrosse, no one has been more passionate than Boston Cannons fans. Even with one league folding and another starting, the Cannons are the only franchise still standing from the original pro outdoor league’s inception back in 2001. Fans have continued to follow and watch the team with a feverish fandom no other Major League Lacrosse or Premier Lacrosse League fan base has been able to match. This season, the ..read more

1. St. John’s Prep – The Eagles were the top dogs all year in our MIAA polls and they close out 2024 with four straight D1 championships and our top spot. No brainer here, the elite of the elite. The quest for five straight has probably already started in Danvers. 2. Longmeadow – The Lancers absolutely ran through the D2 bracket and then capped it off with an incredible triple OT win in the title game over Marshfield. Probably underrated for most of the year, this was one of the most dominant performances in the state wire-to-wire and the program is back on top where is (usually) has been for ..read more

BURLINGTON – Being the hunted is hard enough as it is, but being the hunted for three straight years requires a level of focus and attention to detail few teams are capable of producing consistently. St. John’s Prep has had a target on its back for the last three years after winning the D1 state title in 2021, 2022 and 2023. This year with the target even bigger, the Eagles cruised through the regular season, rarely getting tested while keeping one goal in mind. Make it four straight. Well, the top-seeded Eagles cemented their legacy even further at Burlington High School on Saturday morning ..read more

MARLBOROUGH – All time classic. That’s what Longmeadow and Marshfield produced when the two met for the Division 2 championship at Assabet Valley on Saturday afternoon. The No. 2 Lancers – who were the original Massachusetts high school lacrosse dynasty – are back on top after Brendon Harty went low-to-high in the third overtime to give Longmeadow the 11-10 win. “I just can’t believe it,” said Longmeadow head coach Keith Campbell. “At the first meeting of every year, I say ‘I know we’re going to cry, but I’d much rather have tears of joy. I’ve seen those tears of failure. We’ve been he ..read more

BARNSTABLE – There’s an MIAA state championship trophy headed to the island. Top-seeded Nantucket won a tight 7-6 game over third-seeded Sandwich in the Division 4 championship down in Barnstable on Saturday afternoon. Not only did the Whalers (21-1) win the first championship in program history, but it’s the first state title of any kind for the school since the 2011 football team beat Boston Latin for a championship. Sandwich’s phenomenal run ends at 19-4. Nolen Mosscrop, Colton Chambers and Arann Hanlon each scored two goals apiece for Nantucket. Chambers also had two assists, Colby ..read more

By Owen Hart BostonLax Correspondent WESTWOOD – Both Medfield and Scituate came into Saturday’s state title matchup with massive offensive production throughout the playoffs, with the lowest total by either team at 13 coming from Scituate in a semifinal win over Falmouth. But, in most cases, defense still wins championships. Medfield held Scituate to just four goals in a 13-4 rout to clinch the D3 state championship, the first in eight years for the Warriors’ program. “Our defense has been solid all year,” said Medfield coach John Isaf. “They’re coachable, they follow the system. BURLINGTON – The No. 7 Needham Rockets’ somewhat surprising run through the D1 playoffs isn’t done yet. After knocking off No. 2 Lincoln-Sudbury in the Elite 8, the Rockets took down No. 3 Acton-Boxborough in a nail-biting 9-8 win at Burlington High School in the Final Four on Tuesday night.
