The Office of the Medicaid Inspector General (OMIG) is issuing letters to dentists advising that they may have received Medicaid payments improperly for patients with Medicare Advantage dental plans. Blood Glucose Monitoring in the Dental Office
Effective in January 2019, the CDT-2019 includes a new diagnostic code, D0412, “blood glucose level test – in-office using a glucose meter”. While some dental offices already perform this procedure, the new CDT billing code raises questions for our member dentists.

Governor Cuomo has announced that the New York State Department of Financial Services (DFS) has issued guidance to medical and dental insurers that their participating providers should not be charging separate fees to patients for personal protective equipment (PPE) costs and that the insurers should seek refunds from those participating providers on behalf of their insureds. It is important to note that the DFS guidance is carefully crafted to apply only to participating providers with a particular insurance plan. Trauma!!!!What does it take to bill medical is more complex then other billing. You must gather the following information in order to find the correct diagnostic codes.
1. You must look for the conditions you are treating under the Category S88-thru Y99
2. Make sure you are using external caused codes at the initial encounter.
3. Know the difference between an initial encounter and a subsequent encounter, or sequela
4. External cause codes should not be listed first the type of trauma should be listed before the how.
