The Nation’s Capital is used to producing good footballers. And quite a few of those end up at the Central Coast Mariners. That’s hardly surprising considering the link provided to link to the Isuzu Ute A-League side provided by Canberra’s own Andy Bernal, one of the pioneer’s of exporting Canberra talent abroad, a road he himself trod onto stardom with Sporting Gijon in Spain and Reading in England. Bernal was instrumental in the career of one of Canberra’s biggest and best, the incomparable Tom Rogic. The Socceroos attacking sensation was but a mere fledgling, fresh from stints in the ACT P ..read more

A sensational equaliser from Nick Pratezina earned ten-man Canberra Croatia a more than deserved point from a pulsating 2-2 draw with Tigers FC in front of a large crowd at the Australian Institute of Sport in National Premier League Round 3. Pratezina emerged from the bench for the third time this season to score for the third successive league match, acrobatically meeting a pinpoint cross from Thomas James, on the occasion of his 100th NPL appearance, to magnificently volley past Kristian Nel in the Tigers goal. It was nothing more than Croatia deserved having responded superbly to losing s ..read more

The sun was blazing, but the wind was blowing as it inherently is, at Palmerston Oval as two teams of distinctive cultural identities clashed in the Capital League Open with Yarabi FC rolling out the red carpet, or in this case, the green cricket astroturf strip, to Burns FC from ‘Down South’. Belconnen United moved to the top of the Capital Premier League on goal difference with a crushing 8-0 victory over West Canberra Wanderers as the Blue Devils moved back to McKellar Park for the first time this season. The home side were in top form as they heaped more misery on a beleaguered Wanderers who ended a week to forget in which they conceded fifteen goals in two games, were dumped out of the Australia Cup Qualifying, and fell to the foot of the early CPL league table. They were behind early as Abraham Kemp opened the scoring in only the tenth minute, before Harry Billington and Babi ..read more

Canberra Olympic enter the 2024 season with a target on their back, following their swoop of last season’s league title, Grand Final, and more recently, the Charity Shield. After three years of incredible service at the helm, Nicole Begg has departed the NPLW outfit, and has been replaced by former Olympic men’s coach, Frank Cachia. Having lost the figurehead for their recent success, a coaching heavyweight was the minimum requirement for filling the void left by Begg at the club, and Cachia is just the man for the job, embodying one of the most successful coaches in the capital within recent ..read more
