Focal point The temptation when we have a beautiful scene before us, whether that’s a landscape or a bed of flowers at Floriade: Reimagined, is to try and include as much as possible – to try and capture the whole “scene.” (see figure 1) Unfortunately, while it may look good in real life, and maybe pretty, a “scene” does not always make for a particularly interesting photo for the viewer. In May 2020, it was head down and shovels up as the Canberra community began the process of planting out Floriade bulbs and annuals across the city. When Floriade was cancelled due to the COVID-19 public health emergency, the decision as to what to do with the bulbs was easy: plant them out across Canberra.
