For many of us, part of our daily routine involves stepping outside our homes for a variety of reasons – be it for our jobs, for appointments, or to send our kids off to school or activities. It’s a normal, repetitive aspect of human existence to have to cross the threshold of our private domiciles and interact with the outside world. What happens, though, when the mere thought of this aspect becomes something of paralyzing, all-consuming fear? When you can’t leave the one place that provides you with safety and comfort, not even for a minute? Girl Upstairs, directed by Kevin Van Stevenson, ex ..read more

Vendetta Road – Deathbound at the Campground
HorrorBuzz
by Nicolas Kirks

Vendetta Road was written and directed by Nathan Light. It follows Dakota, played by Marci Engle, a campground host who knows her way around a gun or two. When her path intersects with an escaped fugitive named Ivan, portrayed by Christian Watkins, she’s placed squarely in the middle of a battle against the Irish mafia.  The acting is amateurish from start to finish. Dakota is an interesting character. You never know what will and won’t roll off her shoulders given the dangerous circumstances she finds herself in. Ivan is less interesting. The most  ..read more

Pentagram Girl was written by Bryan Enk and David Robson and directed by Bryan Enk. Lissa Anne Sclar stars as Jenna Bouchard, a daughter who has inherited the skeletons in her father’s closet. In this case, the closet is a basement, and the skeleton is a demon.  The performances vary from pretty good to genuinely good. There is a heightened and exaggerated element to most of these performances. Even when a character is acting normal the microexpressions sometimes add something a little cartoonish. The characters aren’t explored much. We’re introduced to the c ..read more

HorrorBuzz
by Elaine L. Davis

Imagine, if you will, the perfect home. Clean, airy, pre-furnished, plenty of land, and all waiting for the right person to move in. Even the price tag is incredible, considering the current market. Obviously, there’s something seriously wrong here. For Sale follows a comically sleazy salesman named Mason McGuiness (Andrew Roth). He loses his job selling used cars after his shady practices get too blatant to hide, then gets kicked out by his wife (Rachael Lubarsky), who is more than a little peeved that he lost his job and forgot their anniversary on the same day. He mopes around, sleeping in ..read more

Protanopia is about how a writer named Luke has strange dreams about an unfamiliar house after his sister goes missing. The homeowner, Alan Roscoe Jr., inherited it after his father’s untimely death. Now he participates in disturbing behaviour seemingly tending to the house in unsettling, bizarre ways. Written and directed by Matthew Mahler, this labour of love received its financing from Kickstarter. It’s full of surreal imagery similar to Darren Aronofsky or Dario Argento. Luke’s dream sequences are distorted, hyperbolic depictions of Alan’s house. Is he seeing reality or hallucinating? It’s ..read more
