Franklin Templeton Investments Canada today released its 2018 Retirement Income Strategies and Expectations (RISE) survey, which found that the often overlooked generation X is struggling to save for retirement. Surprisingly, over a quarter of Canadian gen-Xers haven’t saved anything for retirement, though there are still more retirement savers among them than in the US, where over a third of American gen-Xers haven’t contributed anything towards their retirement nest egg (28 percent versus 37 percent). Perhaps this could be why more than half of North American gen-Xers would consider retiring ..read more

Did you know? I am a London Royal junkie.  There.  I said it. I love to read about the Royals every chance I get.  I think I fell head over heels when Diana married Charles.  The British pageantry has it all, fashion, scandal and romance.  Here are some fun facts that I have gathered on the Royals from the BBC History website that I hope you enjoy.   Queen Elizabeth doesn’t need a driver’s license. She isn’t legally required to own a driver’s license or a passport   Prince Charles met Princess Diana when she was 16-years-old. The future King (maybe) was da ..read more

When my kids were growing up I remember loving age three because they could walk and talk, making life simpler. Three was fun because you could go to a movie without leaving in the middle, mold play doe without having them digest it or do a craft together without losing an eye. But grandmothering is different somehow. Mason is now 18 months. Every milestone is a celebration for me. Every gurgle and every utterance is a gift that only a grandmother knows needs to be cherishe ..read more

It is true what the songs say, that saying goodbye is never easy. About 24 years ago I said goodbye to a friend, Maria. It wasn’t easy, partly because it was violently unexpected and partly because we were both 24 years old. People are not supposed to die at 24 years old. It was January. We had planned a hot date night with our respective mates. I had a babysitter for my first born and was seven months pregnant. We were very sure of ourselves, and we knew what we wanted. We were both born under the sign of Leo and we fancied ourselves as “being all that and a bag of chips”. At least we thought ..read more
