Plans for a state-of-the art government office development in York have been given the go-ahead. The application to construct a six-storey, 195,000 sq ft government hub, put forward by partners Network Rail, Homes England and the Government Property Agency (GPA) has been approved by the City of York Council Planning Committee. Earmarked for completion in 2027/2028, the hub will be home to up to 2,600 civil servants. Passengers across the country will have better train services thanks to a new transport bill set out in the King’s Speech. The Passenger Railway Services (Public Ownership) Bill has been introduced to Parliament today (18 July). King Charles has delivered the Labour government’s first King’s Speech in the House of Lords. The speech referenced bringing train operators into public ownership through the Passenger Railway Services (Public Ownership) bill. The bill amends existing legislation, changing the appointment of a public-sector operator from an operator of last resort role into the default position. A new platform to increase the number of train services at Hartlepool Station has been completed and seen a successful first month in operation.
