E92BC6 otterhound runs in the garden. Image shot 05/2012. Exact date unknown. Sadly, over the years, many endangered dog breeds have now become extinct. Hovis’ Friday diary: ‘Unfairness levels? Off the chart…’

Dear diary, So, the funds might be sneaking up enough that we have managed to buy some medium sized balls for the every puny spring. We have managed to ease the water works off to a mere shower-like dribble, but now the thermostat has been turned down – we had FROST this morning! I am more and more thinking that mother’s muttered comments about winter being a woman (stroppy, forceful, possibly hormonal and definitely able to do more than one thing at once), and spring being a bloke (slightly whimpy when faced with said aforementioned strong woman and quite clearly only able to do one thing at ..read more

Daisy and Pompey. A healthy foal has been born to one of the 26 “smuggled” horses who were rescued in Dover by World Horse Welfare. The charity believes the horses were to be taken out of the UK to a European slaughterhouse. The mixed group included elderly animals, pregnant mares and youngstock. They were found in an overcrowded and filthy vehicle, with many unfit for their intended journey and seven undeclared to officials. Daisy, one of the five pregnant mares in the group, safely delivered a colt on Friday (12 April). The new arrival has been named Pompey, after the port of Portsmouth, to ..read more
