I Still Call Australia Home

I’m currently sat at Heathrow Airport awaiting my flight home to Australia. I can feel a huge tide of emotion filling up deep inside me. Honestly, it blows my mind when I tell people I haven’t been home in 2 and a half years. A lot can happen in that amount of time, that’s for sure. 5 of my close friends have had babies I’ve never met. I missed the birth of my only nephew Randy, last year. He’ll be 10 months old when I meet him. I’ve missed being close to people I love and who love me. I’ve missed my dogs. I’ve missed out on the physical nurturing of friendships which I hope can still last ..read more

Ladies, we urgently need to discuss this. It’s been on my mind a lot recently and I know many of us are having mental battles every day with this very, very serious dilemma. It’s a dilemma I know every female thinks about. We don’t want to think about it; in fact, we despise and loathe it completely. The age old, unwavering, ANNOYING female dilemma that is... “Getting Older” - specifically, entering our 30’s and all the stupid shit that goes with it.For some of us, turning 30 can activate panic mode. “BABIES, I forgot to have babies!” “Where are all my savings and why am I STILL losing things ..read more

My Scoliosis Story

I was 8 years old when I found out I had scoliosis. Little 8 year old me had pneumonia and needed a chest x-ray to look at my lungs; that was when doctors discovered my spine was curved in a slight S-shape (but my lungs were OK!).There is no history of scoliosis in my family and no doctor could tell us why I had it or how bad it would get. All they could do was monitor it with regular x-rays as I grew. So that’s what we did. 3 years later, doctors told us the curvature was worsening by 1 degree per month. If we didn’t try to stop it, it could lead to severe and painful disfigurement. This was ..read more

Whether you’ve just finished your first contract or are on your twelfth, the time in between jobs is always difficult to manage for performers. You’re suddenly back in the audition rat race, looking for new ways to earn money while trying to keep yourself show-fit and motivated. It’s never easy! So I’ve devised a little guide to help prevent my fellow struggling artists, who are currently inbetweening, from falling into despair.1. What do you enjoy?Make a list of all the things you enjoy doing that you can do on your own. Things like dance classes, reading, gym etc. Only write it down if you ..read more

More often than not, I get looks of confusion when I say that I’m a dancer. I’ve come to realise there is no word to describe my career that will ever get me a look of understanding. Performer, showgirl, artist, ummmmm yeah I’m a dancer. No, not the exotic kind (internal eye roll). I mean yeah, I wear false eyelashes, fishnet stockings and find sequins and feathers in places one normally does not (bathroom floor, inside my sneakers, up my nose, in my underwear, I CAN’T ESCAPE). Discomfort aside, the costumes are usually pretty bloody amazing once you actually manage to get everything on and i ..read more

Bad Body Talk

It’s nothing new, all of us dancers are aware that the way we look is just as crucial to success as our hard work and talent. In both my training and career, I have been openly judged and professionally impeded countless times by my height, weight (both spectrums), body proportion, posterior size, hair length and overall appearance. Then of course, there’s the influence of social media on top of it all. For women, being slim isn’t enough anymore, you also have to be muscular and toned (not bulky) but still have womanly curves and boobs, have a peachy bum but a tiny waist with just the right ab ..read more
