In our final ever episode of The Garbage Podcast, we’re closing out our celebration of Back to Earth’s 15th anniversary with a look back at the story’s concluding part. By the episode’s own quantum logic, is Lister a murderer? Which prime time family drama does Doug think is naff? And if your sitcom seems to be leaning more heavily into drama than normal, can you balance that by having one of your cast smash their cock and bollocks into a desk, while two of the others get twatted by rakes? All these painful questions and more will be covered as Alex, James and Andrew try one last time to prove ..read more

Bleeding Love review

In Bleeding Love, from director Emma Westenberg, the open road has never felt more awkward. The film tells the story of a recovering addict father on a road trip with his estranged daughter following her overdose. Adding a little extra intrigue is that the father/daughter pairing are played by actors who share that familial relationship; Ewan McGregor and Clara McGregor. With the younger McGregor one of the co-writers of the story, you might be tempted to read some truth into what’s shown on screen, particularly with the films main themes of addiction problems, divorces and second families al ..read more

In our continuing celebration of Back to Earth’s 15th anniversary, we look back at the story’s second part in our penultimate podcast. Does this part have some similarities with another British televisual institution? Just why won’t real life Fan Club chairman James Bull change his name to Reg Wharf? And at what point in the production did it occur to anyone that a Smart car only has two seats? All these compact questions and more will be covered as Alex, James and Andrew reminisce about what is arguably the strangest episode of Red Dwarf ever made. ‘Just had to say one last goodbye.’ Yes, as we said on our last episode, we have reached the end of this podcast. But while we’ve had episodes covering every TV episode of the show, there’s one story we’ve never covered. Until now. So for one final time, join us over the next three days for three editions of The Garbage Podcast covering Red Dwarf’s return with Back to Earth. How did the approach to the show change after a decade off air? What effect did the rushed and limited production have on the story? And what strange abuse was shouted at the cast at the Berkley Square promo for the story ..read more

In this final edition of our celebration of Series VIII’s 25th anniversary, we look back at the series’ finale, ‘Only The Good’. Was it a fitting end for both the series, and for a decade, seemingly for the show itself? Given his skelital form, can one really knee Death in the happy sack? And in the space of one podcast, how many times can we fit in the word Cesiumfrancolithicmyxialobidiumrixydixydoxidexidroxhide? All these sesquipedalian questions and more will be addressed as for the final time, Alex, James and Andrew return to the show for a silver anniversary. The post Series VIII Reviews ..read more

The Fast Show Live 2024 review

The Fast Show team are back for a new tour catchily titled An Evening With the Fast Show. That’s probably to set expectations. This isn’t a full production show with elaborate costume changes, makeup and lots of staging like previous arena tours. But it also might not be quite what you were expecting. The show began with Charlie Higson arriving on stage to make the introductions. He appears to have settled into the character of a charming old headmaster in his nice grey suit. With the line of six chairs on the stage, and a big screen behind, it appeared that the evening was going to be a ch ..read more

In this edition of our continuing celebration of Series VIII’s 25th anniversary, we look back at the third episode of the series, Back in The Red – Part 3. All these questions are more will  addressed as Alex, James and Andrew return to the episode widely regarded as the best of the series and see if it blows them away. The post Serie ..read more
