After a brief hiatus, we're back with another Main Character of the Race, but this one has a bit of a twist! So read on for all the details.Last race had a little bit of everything, mud, dogs, moms, it was an absolute hoot. So if you're not caught up, catch the recap here. For the 5th round of the Cascadia Dirt Cup, taking place this weekend in Darrington, Washington, the core of the competition will be the same: We remain convinced that without the fans, bike racing is just a bunch of dorks in silly clothes mouth breathing in the woods. Cheering, heckling, offering (un)helpful advice on line ..read more

Last weekend, I raced my first-ever downhill race at the Jackson Hole Mountain Resort (JHMR) bike park. I didn’t mean to “get into racing” this summer, but after a fabulous introduction to the genre during the Sturdy Dirty Enduro, I’ve been feeling more inclined to try new things.  Also, the skid in me saw “cash prizes” and secretly stored away the hope that I might go home with a little something-something to fund my bougie-on-a-budget lifestyle. Nestled in the shadows of alpine peaks at the Olympic Plaza in Whistler Village, we all gathered to take in the incredible visual storytelling from six photographers who took on the three-day epic to capture the people, culture, and activity that drew us all to the area to play on our bikes. The breathtaking Sḵwiḵw region (belonging to the Sk̲wx̲wúmesh and L̓il̓watú peoples) brings the masses together each year to appreciate the mountains under the July sun for eleven days filled with bikes and buddies. The Deep Summer Photo Challenge is structured to highlight the beauty of the area through t ..read more

The youth of today are the future of our sport, and we appreciate the fire these young rippers bring to the world. From freeride to XC, the youngsters are on fire and doing exciting things. The Kids Are Alright will be a running column showcasing the up-and-comers who are keeping things fresh, dialed, sick, and whatever else the kids are saying these days. If you want to nominate someone, please, shoot me an email! First up, we’ve got Jonny Davie out of Pocatello, Idaho. Jonny is an absolute ripper on the bike and a great person in general. I sat down for a quick chat with Jonny to learn ..read more

Forge+Bond Shift EM 30 Wheels Review
BIKE Mag
by Cy Whitling

Forge+Bond rolled out a few new products this spring, notably their Shift wheel line, and then, a few months later, 27.5” rear wheels for both their Shift and premium lines. That later release really spoke to me, I’m all about more affordable carbon wheels (especially those made in North America), and I’m pretty infatuated with the mixed-wheel experience. So I’ve spent the last three months riding a Shift EM 30 mixed wheelset on my REEB STEEZL, and then my Trek Slash. The short version? They deliver great ride quality and durability, at the right price. If you want the details on pricing, weig ..read more
