GLENDALE, Arizona — A country club here finds itself in hot water over a pervasive and repugnant stench coming from one of its golf course ponds that has frustrated nearby residents of the Arrowhead Ranch subdivision. Stephen Kyle Bais, the golf course superintendent for Arrowhead Country Club, is suspected of violating a city code related to odors and is scheduled to be arraigned in Glendale Municipal Court on Monday afternoon, local officials confirmed. For years, homeowners have smelled what they described as sewage lingering around the affluent community. It’s usually worse around the summ ..read more

Inclement weather delayed the final round of the 2024 Cognizant Classic in the Palm Beaches by more than three hours on Sunday afternoon and pushed the first event of the PGA Tour’s Florida Swing to a Monday finish. After heavy rains pummelled PGA National in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida, Austin Eckroat found himself in the lead at 15 under entering the fifth day of play. Eleven holes later he walked away with the trophy at 17 under for his first PGA Tour win in just his 50th start. Eckroat made two birdies over seven holes on Sunday afternoon before play was called due to darkness and the 25-y ..read more

LeBron James, Drake lead list of celebrities who have invested in PGA Tour

The discussion around professional golf lately has been less birdies and bogeys and more dollars and bills. The PGA Tour recently partnered with the Strategic Sports Group (SSG), an outside investment conglomerate headlined by Fenway Sports Group and comprised of several high-level U.S.-based sports owners, to create a new, for-profit entity called PGA Tour Enterprises. The deal will provide players equity in the new venture and will see the SSG invest up to $3 billion, with an initial investment of $1.5 billion. The player grants will vest over time and will be based on career accomplishments ..read more

Best golf wedges you can buy in 2024
Golf Week Magazine
by David Dusek

Wedges are the most confusing and intimidating golf club category because there are so many options to choose from and many players don’t really understand how to properly use wedges to hit chip shots, bunker shots, flop shops and pitch shots. They hear terms like bounce, sole grind, heel and toe relief and camber and nod, but in the back of their minds they are thinking, “What the hell does that mean?” To make matters worse, iron lofts have become stronger over the last decade, with many game-improvement sets coming with a 9-iron that has a loft of around 38 degrees and a pitching wedge at 42 ..read more

Paul Azinger doesn't hold back about his breakup with NBC (and suggests who should replace him)

Paul Azinger is driving to Gator Creek Golf Club in Sarasota, Florida. He brought the fish for a fish fry and then he’s planning to peg it with his son-in-law and a couple of friends. His mind is miles away from the Cognizant Classic in the Palm Beaches, what should’ve been the start of four straight weeks in his home state calling out whoever might be choking his guts out on the PGA Tour for NBC. But in November, the network elected not to renew his contract, ending his four-year stint as its lead golf analyst. (NBC Sports declined to comment for this story.) Instead, Azinger has been hanging ..read more

After heavy rain, Cognizant Classic will be first Monday finish on PGA Tour in 14 months

PALM BEACH GARDENS, Fla. — Welcome to Palm Beach County, my friends from Cognizant. Now you know how the folks from Honda felt. Most years, golfers get through 72 holes of this PGA Tour event with wind as the only weather challenge. After all, this is the “dry season.” Most years. Those who sloshed through the floods and avoided the water moccasins when nearly 8 inches of rain fell during the 2015 tournament will argue that. Or those caught in the deluge two years ago when the leaders were on the 72nd hole might object. That 2015 storm forced a Monday finish. That was the last time … before Su ..read more

The final round of the 2024 Cognizant Classic in the Palm Beaches at PGA National in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida, was heavily delayed by inclement weather in the area, so much so that the first event of the Florida Swing will feature a Monday finish. Play was suspended due to lightning in the area at 12:49 p.m. ET on Sunday afternoon and the course quickly became unplayable after a downpour of rain flooded greens and fairways. The practice range was re-opened shortly after 3 p.m. ET as officials continued to gauge when players could return to action. There was a tornado warning for Palm Beach ..read more

Breaking down Anthony Kim's last-place LIV Golf Jeddah debut by the numbers
Golf Week Magazine
by Adam Woodard

Unless you had zero expectations for Anthony Kim’s return to professional golf, your expectations were too high. After three wins on the PGA Tour and two appearances for Team USA in the Ryder Cup and President Cup (5-2-1 overall), Kim was tabbed as golf’s next young talent in the late 2000s. Surgery to his Achilles in 2012 – and an insurance policy rumored in the $10 million range – kept Kim away from the professional game for the last 12 years before the 38-year-old joined the LIV Golf League for the 2024 season as a wild card player. The universally loved fan-favorite started the week with a ..read more
