Bored by the Bible?

There are passages, chapters and even entire books of the Bible that are a challenge to read. But today, something clicked and now I’m excited to dig into the Scriptures that used to put me to sleep. As I was listening to Day 43 of The Bible in a Year, Father Mike read from Exodus (or maybe it was Leviticus?) about how God’s people were to construct the Ark of the Covenant. I have no clue what a cubit is. And even if I did know, oh, my goodness – the details about every little dimension of this wooden box are overwhelming!!! But then it hit me; God ALWAYS has a purpose! And that means these de ..read more

New Beginnings

Shout if you are excited to have a Savior. No trumpet required! Tonight, September 15, 2023 begins the observance of Yom Teruah. For Jews and Christians, this is a 25-hour opportunity to practice what we will do on the day Messiah returns. I’m not big on manmade rituals or traditions, but if G-d gives us a specific time to do something, I’m thinking it’s a pretty good idea to go ahead and do it. (see 1 Corinthians 15:50-56; Leviticus 23:23-25 & Numbers 29:1). Why? These past few years have been rough. We have all had more than our fair share of struggles – either in our health, jobs or wit ..read more

Daily Encouragement: First step of the journey. It’s well underway! Keep reaching. Keep trying. Tomorrow is waiting. It’s a bright, new day. You Might Be Feeling: If yesterday was a breeze, congratulations!! If you faced temptations, that’s OK! New beginnings require us to re-think everything – even the things we don’t usually think about. Breakfast was the most difficult for me. What I learned is that I need to have a plan (ahead of time) for what I will eat. Maybe you craved a treat… No problem! What you learned is that you value having something to look forward to. So make a list of things ..read more

We are getting closer to the start of our fast! Some of you are ready to go. You will just “not eat sugar.” It will be fine. Others are starting to look at the labels on the back of the food in their refrigerators and cupboards and wondering what they can eat. I just loved this picture because it’s how I feel when I try to understand the labels on the back of my food – or worse, when I try to figure out how these sugars are affecting my body. Regardless of which camp you are in, let’s roll up our sleeves and do a little prep work.  In fact, we are going to prepare ourselves in 4 area ..read more

Why do I need to cut back on sugar?
Life with Cherié

Did you know, sugar has literally NO nutritional value? Sure, it tastes good and makes us feel good, but most of us are over-doing it. Waay overdoing it. The average American consumes about 17 teaspoons (270 calories) of added sugar every day?! You need zero teaspoons. Zero. The recommended limit is six teaspoons (100 calories) for women/children under 18 and nine teaspoons (150 calories) for most men [1]. So what? Why is too much sugar bad for you? According to the American Heart Association, every year 180,000 people die (25,000 in the U.S.) as a result of consuming sugary beverages alone ..read more

Teachers, family members, the media, even well-meaning friends seek to define what’s true. Now, more than ever before, it’s important for each of us to decide for ourselves:   What is your truth? Who are you? and What do you believe? How do you find your truth? How do you test your truth? – Does your truth cover every situation? And will it still make sense regardless of your circumstances? How do you live your truth in everyday life? How do you spend your time and invest your attention in ways that correspond to your truth?   Photo by Norbert Braun on Unsplash ..read more

I’m a bottom line kind of person. So I will begin by telling you the secret: “Do the last thing God told you  – until the next thing God tells you.” It sounds simple, maybe even easy, but don’t let that fool you! Keep reading or, if you’re like me, you might still spend countless hours agonizing because you (we) don’t know what God wants for us. Thanks to Josh Earls’s sermon this Sunday, I know the secret (see the bottom line above). Maybe you will see yourself in this: Up until I was about 32 years old, I wasn’t able to recognize God’s voice. Yes, I can look back now and recognize some ..read more

The 2022 Garden Season Begins Now There are many advantages to starting seeds indoors. With seedlings, you begin with viable plants and transplant them to get the maximum use out of your Garden space.
