If you’re a regular around these parts, you will know that I have loved and raved about Labels4School for a very long time! Labels4School makes labelling fun (well as fun as labelling can be) and the team knows exactly what us moms need. From pencil labels, to Pritt labels, to lunchboxes, shoes, clothing….they have thought about everything. What’s even better is that they have so many options that cater to every budget…and ‘budget’ with Labels4School does NOT mean that that you have to skimp on quality ? Since the last feature I did in 2020 reviewing Labels4School, the company has introduced ..read more

I’ve been back in the office for about 6 months now and I have to say that I still have not adjusted to this way of life. Between loadshedding, the traffic and just life in general, it becomes overwhelming. One of the areas I feel that I am really slacking is definitely when it comes to ensuring that my kids are keeping up at school. I have a daughter in highschool, a son in Grade 6 and then my youngest is in Grade 2. Currently all my kiddos are busy with assessments and term tests, so it’s a busy time when we factor all of life’s daily tasks. I thought I’d round up some study tips for us bus ..read more

It’s all fun and games reading books to your sweet cooing baby, but once they start school, reading can feel like an Olympic sports! The kids need to read x amount of books to get their reading certificates/badges, so you always need a good supply of age appropriate books to get the task done. Thankfully, being a book blogger, I do get exposed to authors I may never have heard about, and I love to share those gem finds with you all! Best of all, this is also a local author, so I’m always excited to discover amazing local authors! Jaco Jacobs has a great series of books, called Z is for Zack ..read more

Anybody have a kid starting Grade 1 in 2022?? I can’t even believe that my lastborn, my baby is starting Grade 1 this year! I’m going to try to not get emotional about it in this post, but come the 18th of January, mama is going to be crying all of the tears! I’ve taken leave, just to spend the day crying ? With starting ‘big school’ comes the task of learning to read!!!!!!!!!!! This aspect of school has always given me nightmares, but thankfully it went well with my first 2….but still I get anxious. Shockingly, I discovered Adam actually reads a few words already….apparently You Tube taught ..read more

Any parents with kids that are going to Grade R or Grade 1 next year? This is my third rodeo, and I swear it never gets easier. I am already so worried about Adam and how quickly he will catch on with reading. My older 2 couldn’t read when they went to Grade 1, but very quickly became very strong readers. I would be amazed at how quickly they just got it. Adam has hearing issues and he is my baby (and acts like it!), so I think it’s inevitable that I worry that this is not going to be as easy for him as it was for his siblings. As a result, I’m trying to accumulate all the books that will aid ..read more

An Ordinary Gal | Parenting

Afrikaans is like a swear word in our home…well when it comes to the kids. My kids CANNOT speak Afrikaans. I’ve realised we have definitely neglected encouraging them to read Afrikaans, and as a result, their comprehension of the language is a bit shocking. #ParentingFail! To improve matters, I’m definitely trying to get them to read more Afrikaans. In today’s post, I’ll share some Afrikaans books for kids, that will potentially help your kids too ? Perseus, by Martha Snyman (RSP R145) Hy kan vlieg. Hy kan planne maak. Hy kan met nare mense se gal werk. Hy en sy swaard skrik nie vir monsters ..read more

Do your kids love books that are based on a show that they watch? I think it just elevates their interest so much more in a book, when they recognise the characters already! I’m reviewing Gigantosaurus The Groundwobbler, and if you want to see a clip of the show that relates to this book, click over HERE. What is Gigantosaurus The Groundwobbler about? Watch out for that giant crack in the ground! Will the dino friends make it back home? An exciting Gigantosaurus adventure. Th ..read more
