COVID-19 came into the world and interrupted all our lives to say the least. It’s been the same from our mission, but with every changed plan God has brought redemption. For us, these interruptions meant that people could not travel to their assignments or in some cases even leave their homes. But setbacks and restrictions didn’t stop many from beginning a move of God right where they were. By the power of His Spirit, God beautified a trying season and gave our team some incredible stories to tell! In Wisconsin, Joey and Alyssa B had plans to leave for the Middle East but were then put on loc ..read more

COVID-19 put the world into unknown territory. As something new happened in the world, something new was happening in Mozambique. Four students traveled to Mozambique, unaware that a historic world lockdown would soon occur. Planes, busses, and 4x4s carried them over sea and dusty, sandy roads to reach our base in Inhambane, Mozambique. These students arrived just weeks before worldwide lockdowns forced border closures and flight cancelations. They were there to experience a move of God and connect with Him in a new way as participants in the first ever Advanced Mission Training outside of Za ..read more

Whatever it takes. This foundational principle has guided Overland Missions since its inception. No spiritual struggles, no difficult terrain, no culture is too hard for the power of the Holy Spirit. We do whatever it takes because we know the King is with us and He is worthy. If Jesus considered all people worthy enough to shed His blood, to make the ultimate sacrifice, then we will do whatever it takes to bring all people the Gospel message. Shane and Chelsea B, Sector missionaries in Chipepo, Zambia, are no strangers to the struggles that come with a calling into ministry. “God never promi ..read more

As the decade comes to a close this month, we remember all that God has done through our team in the nations. Overland Missions exists to mobilize people with the Gospel message into the world as pioneers. For Christ, we communicate the Gospel in remote places, with an emphasis on the new creation, in order to transform forgotten people by making disciples and developing leaders. This simple message has the power to change not only individual hearts but also families, communities, and entire nations. Tricia B, one of the Expeditions Directors, puts it this way: “You cannot have a true underst ..read more

As Overland Missions, our desire is to create Gospel-centered communities that grow and stand the test of time. In every area, the Great Commission calls us to make disciples—not simply converts, but true followers of Jesus. We strive to multiply believers across the nations, so that every disciple has the tools they need to thrive and the full revelation of every blessing they’ve received from heaven. Sherrill A., Director of Overland’s Sustain division and missionary in DR Congo, has learned a lot about what discipleship actually looks like. “We have this idea that discipleship is once a wee ..read more

By Jessi Schwertfeger, International Director of Operations. “The man believed the word that Jesus had spoken to him and went on his way," John 4:50. Sometimes, and especially when we visit the United States, Jacob and I are approached as if we are returning heroes from a long-fought battle. Phrases like, We could never do what you do, We’re just glad there’s someone there, and Bless you for your sacrifices, are things that we hear on a weekly basis. The message of our life surrounds the reality that the fullness of God dwelt in His Son Jesus and was given to us as a gift. If this is true, the ..read more

Being the Example

When Jesus lived on the earth, His primary objective was always the cross—reconciling humanity back to the Father. Yet, He still spent three years traveling throughout Israel and teaching his followers about the Kingdom of Heaven. He not only taught about the kingdom—He lived it, giving His disciples an example to follow. He spent time investing in the lives of those who truly believed in him, so that they could do the same for their disciples. As a team, we strive to follow the example that Jesus set. It may not be the fastest approach, but the Gospel often comes alive for people in the day ..read more

Our world today is very much a product of globalization—sometimes for good, and sometimes for bad.  Nonetheless, as believers we are called “not to be conformed to the patterns of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind,” Romans 12:12.  If we become complacent, the culture of today’s media-soaked world can contort the foundations upon which our faith is built.  All too quickly, fear will begin to look like "wisdom," and our personal experiences will speak louder than the Holy Spirit. Our team began transitioning into the Middle East this year, but due to pol ..read more

"Therefore do not be anxious, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ For the Gentiles seek after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them all. But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you," Matthew 6:31-33. When Overland pioneers into an area, our greatest focus is sharing the Gospel. But the Gospel brings with it promises of physical provision that are extended to all who believe. Much of this more “practical” Biblical wisdom is done by Overland’s Sustain department. “Sus ..read more

"For we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but on who in every respect has been tempted as we are, yet without sin." (Heb 4:15) When Jesus lived on the earth, he showed us not only what perfection looks like, but proved that it is attainable. Ultimately, he fulfilled the role of high priest—someone who stands in the breach, to bridge the gap between us and God. He exemplified the best in humanity to God, while acting as God to humanity at the same time. He didn’t only take up his cross once, but lived, walked, breathed among us, to show us how to take u ..read more
