It’s no secret I eat a lot of pancakes. Both in restaurants and cafés, as well as making them at home.
When the pandemic first hit, and we all found ourselves with a lot of extra time on our hands, I took to making rather extravagant working from home brunches. This included refining my pancake game and testing out some new variants.
As an avid banana bread lover, I’ve often got some overripe bananas laying about, so I decided to see if I could use these up in different ways. Plus, I don’t need to remind you of the time when eggs were suddenly very difficult to come by in the superma ..read more

Oh, hello! It’s been a minute, hasn’t it? Well, look, after the year and a bit we’ve all had, I’m here to share some bloody fantastic news and that is that there are new restaurants opening in Brighton once again! If you hadn’t heard on the grapevine or seen on social channels, Burnt Orange is a hotly anticipated new addition to Brighton’s Lanes, brought to you by the very people behind The Coal Shed and The Salt Room.

In Brighton and Hove, we’re very blessed to have access to such a variety of cuisines on our doorstep – and not just the Anglo iterations either. Where Indian food is concerned, we’ve got food outlets serving up authentic street food and Indian snacks, specialist supermarkets offering hard to find produce and ingredients and restaurants dedicated to regional dishes, like Punjabi or Bengali.
I love Indian food. Having been lucky enough to visit India twice so far in my life, I like to think I have a fairly good feel for the cuisine and love making curries, naan and roti at home.
So when the tea ..read more

Last week, I had the pleasure of visiting The Vurger Co., the latest addition to Brighton’s indie (and vegan) fast food scene, to preview* the menu ahead of its grand opening this weekend, Saturday 11th July.
The concept of The Vurger Co. came after years of co-founders Neil struggling with stomach issues and discovering the exciting possibilities around plant-based living during a trip to California. Beginning as a market stall in 2016 and running successful pop-up events and catering, by 2018 founders Rachel and Neil opened their first restaurant in London. The Brighton store is their ..read more

I was recently invited* to English’s of Brighton for a rather special lunch along with my foodie pal, Eshé. English’s of Brighton is the oldest seafood restaurant in Brighton, having stood in Brighton’s Lanes under its current ownership since 1945. Its full history, however, is said to date back even further – over 150 years!
Situated in the lovely, historic little nook in East Street, English’s always stands out as the original and authentic seafood destination; with its gorgeous painted exterior, sunny yellow brickwork and splashes of flowers adorning the exterior. So there I went to find ..read more
