The Symptoms Doctor’s Appointment for PD For about a year, I had a slight tremor in my right hand. But when I saw my internist for my annual physical, my hand was as calm as could be. After my wife confirmed that my hand did indeed shake at times, my internist referred me to a neurologist. The Hoehn and Yahr Scale, published in 1967, describes five stages of the progression of Parkinson’s Disease across all patients. Parkinson’s disease (PD) is progressive. It worsens over time.   Parkinson’s disease occurs when dopamine producing nerve cells in the brain become damaged or die. Dopamine is vital for coordinated muscle and movement control.
