Every year as a single, Valentine’s Day was a dreaded highlight on social media – a parade of romantic posts that I wished I could respond to with a throw-up emoji to express my distaste. However, my perspective has shifted, not because I’ve found “the one” (lol), but through self-discovery and reflection. With my wife Kara, we’ve pondered our single years and would like to share some insights that might resonate with those still searching for a special someone. Fix You I used to think I was just fine, but my 17 years of singleness suggested otherwise. To be your healthiest self, focus on imp ..read more

As a Christian single, it can be helpful to have some questions prepared for a first date to get to know the other person and gauge compatibility. Here are ten potential questions to consider asking: 1. How did you come to your faith in Jesus Christ? This question can help you understand the other person’s spiritual journey and what their faith means to them. Hearing about their experiences and how they came to faith can give insight into their beliefs and values. It can also be an opportunity to share your own faith journey and compare experiences. 2. What does your relationship with God look ..read more

What I learned from waiting

How long do I have to wait? Why am I waiting? Did I wait too long? These are some of the questions that, when I was single, I would ask as I reflected on the future. When you don’t have something you think you need, it creates a heightened sensitivity. The question of “how long” came on the heels of divorce. I was given a calculation for waiting and was told three months for every year I was married. My response was, “that’s almost three years and way too long.” So, I started dating without waiting. Not waiting didn’t turn out too well, as you can read about it here, here, and here As I remain ..read more

Proverbs 25:28 A man without self-control is like a city broken into and left without walls. I am always asking God to give me wisdom about relationships. One night while praying God flashed a quick vision before my eyes. It was a chain with a broken link. At the time, I couldn’t understand the meaning but I knew the revelation would come soon. Three days ago he gave me the answer and here is it: A relationship is only as strong as its weakest link. In essence; a relationship is only as strong as its weakest partner.I looked up some definitions regarding “weak-link” and here are a few I found ..read more

Prayer Challenge. To summarize 2020 in just a short sentence, I would reach back to Charles Dicken’s ‘Tale of Two Cities’ and say, “It was the best of times, it was the worst of times.” 2020 was a life of living in the extremes of things. Yet, my title reads “2020 The Best Year Ever.” To understand why it was the best, let me take you back to December 2019. Each year I pray in December for my word for the following year. The word provides a focus for what I believe God has for me for that next year. One year the word was service, another generosity, and another peace. My close friends all know ..read more

I’m afraid of commitment.

I’m afraid of commitment. Like, really afraid. In college, when my boyfriend told me he loved me, I ran away. And I have been doing the same thing ever since. It doesn’t matter what it is. It can be a relationship, a business, a dream. If it’s big enough, it’s easy for me to be non-committal. It seems that when something really spectacular comes along, the need for validation presents itself in a much larger way. I have a couple of opportunities in my life right now, but I feel like it’s easier to say “I don’t want to fully commit to pursuing that really awesome thing, because first I want pro ..read more

Remarriage After Divorce. Some time ago, I wrote the article, “If I am a Christian, Can I get a Divorce.” In it, I discussed some biblical reasons for divorce and what is forfeited by divorce for the Christian. So please read it first. Who is this Article For? –  Remarriage After Divorce for Christians I am writing this article for “bible believing” Christians who are divorced (or going through a divorce). Why Conflict Can Be A Good Thing & How To Deal With It

Why Conflict Can Be A Good Thing & How To Deal With It – I sat on one end of the couch and he sat on the other, in the kind of silence that can be cut with a knife. My arms were crossed and he stared forward at the blank television screen. Inwardly I was bursting to get my feelings out on the table but outwardly I was stone cold like the guards outside Buckingham Palace. Soon he grabbed the remote to turn on a movie and eventually we moved past the silent fight we were warring over. I learned pretty early on in dating that conflict was inevitable. At first, I didn’t deal with it well becau ..read more
