i walked the yard yesterday. lots of fresh green growth. the columbine have flower stalks with large buds just days away from blooming. the early daffodils are done. and the second flush are rapidly fading. the miniature iris are in bloom. so i checked the species daylily in the warm micro clime. the southern facing brick brick porch provides a perfect spot to hurry things along. hiding in the shadows are two plump daylily buds looking like they are only a couple or so days away from blooming. this could be the earliest they have bloomed. these species plants will bloom for about two weeks. an ..read more

the computer says it is 41 degrees fahrenheit 5 celsius. there is frost on the roof of the car and no doubt in several other places. our neighbor’s lilac is already in bloom. our’s has bud and will bloom soon. columbines are sending up flower stalks. and the miniature iris and tulips are in bloom. spring has sprunged. there are a few more flowers to come before the daylily make their appearance. and the earliness makes me wonder how soon they will announce themselves… click to enlarge image © Copyright John Hric All rights reserved. this is a first year bloom. it is a cross of two of my favorite seedlings. i like what i see in the flower. it is an open star form. it has a purple blush in the eye zone. ruffles. and a thin gold edge to the petals and sepals. it also has good branching and bud count. so it should produce lots of blooms. and now to find out what it will do when crossed with other flowers. the first image is the new seedling. then the two parent plants… new seedlingparent – Chicken on the Runparent – seedling 16-007-A ..read more
