when i look at a flower most often i see the familiar. the traits i like most. i am looking for an open star shape. so in this case i am slightly disappointed when the petals curve back and obscure that shape. i look for solid unblemished areas of color. and for green reaching up into the other colors in the throat of the flower. i look at the stamens mimicking the color changes in the petals and holding their treasure of powdery pollen above the bloom. and ruffles too… click on image to enlarge © Copyright John Hric All rights reserved. Strange moment

removing the spent flowers is often referred to as deadheading. today we have the garden walk. we want the yard to start off very clean. so last night we did something strange that scares the beejeebers out of the garden fairies. we live headed. that means both the spent blooms and anything already blooming were pinched. that left the garden looking strange. not an open bloom in sight. this morning everything is back to normal. lots of open flowers. and a chorus of garden fairies saying ” stop doing that !”… click to enlarge image © Copyright John Hric All rights reserved.
