Fresh Colombia arrivals means a fresher Savio! For the next couple of months we’ll be featuring a washed lot from La Flora’s mitaca harvest in El Pital, Colombia.  This is now our third season purchasing coffees from La Flora via our friends / importing partners at Osito Coffee. They have a very strong presence in Colombia and are dedicated to paying farmers fixed prices well above the market. Additionally, we work closely with them on the logistics of importing our selections each year from Cafeología in Chiapas, Mexico! The French Press is an unmistakable, iconic brewing device, found in homes and coffee shops around the world since it first became well known in the late 1920s. Today, it represents many coffee enthusiasts’ initial leap of faith into manual brewing methods, and for good reason! Easy to operate, clean, and brew enough for brunch.   For decades, the French Press recipe has been universally accepted with minimal contention -  grind coarse, fill with water, and plunge hard at the four minute mark.  Voila! Over the past few years, however, we’ve continued learning more about th ..read more

Washing Channels / Gora Kone / Ethiopia Our Rwanda offerings are nearly depleted from the 2019 season, and we’re now seeing the vibrant and fruit-forward section of the menu dominated by fresh crop arrivals from Ethiopia.  The blends are no exception to this seasonality! The Humure component of Savio has now been replaced with a washed process from Ethiopia - Mulish. Mulish is the name of a washing station in the Guji zone, owned by the exporting company, Testi Coffee, and imported via Trabocca.  We’ve purchased many coffees over the past few years from Testi-owned stations, such as ..read more

Greeting from Workers / Bugoyi Washing Station / Rutsiro, Rwanda For the past couple of years, a regional Nicaraguan blend from Gold Mountain Coffee Growers has been the single core component of Aldo’s. Alas, coffee is a hyper seasonal crop and sometimes we don’t quite contract enough green coffee to bridge a full year season-to-season! We’ll now be using some brand new components in our Aldo’s for the next few months until our 2020 shipment of coffee from Gold Mountain arrives in early September. One will be a familiar face, as it’s also a core component of bell’s - Los Santos. The other wil ..read more

Our 2019 Los Santos selection has arrived!  We’ve been purchasing this coffee now for three years from our friends at Beneficio Bella Vista in Antigua, Guatemala.  Los Santos is a collection of smallholder farmers from a region North West of Antigua - San José Poaquil, Chimaltenango. The population here is predominantly indigenous people of Maya descent, Kaqchikel to be exact, and they only began producing coffee 20 years ago.  This is a unique scenario in which Bella Vista has made an arrangement with two specific coyotes (middle-men buyers) in the area. Traditionally, a coyote would buy a ..read more

We’ve recently received the results from the 2019 Golden Bean North America roasting competition, and we’re extremely excited to announce that we’re bringing home more medals than ever - four! This is the Australia-born contest's fifth year in the United States, and it's our fourth year sending a selection of our coffees - this time to Nashville, Tennessee - to be judged across multiple different brewing preparations.  Growing in size once again, the competition filtered through coffees from 450 different roasters - roughly 1300 total submissions. There were 435 entries in the filter category ..read more
