Now I’m 27, you’re more likely to find me at the pub on a Saturday than dancing the night away at a club. In fact, it seems the only time I spend in clubs these days is during my friends’ hen dos. Me and Graeme just really love wandering aimlessly in search of new bars and pubs. Luckily enough for us, then, Edinburgh has so many tucked away down wee closes.

Sunday is truly my favourite day of the week. What’s not to like about a slow day where sleeping in, concocting elaborate brunches, decluttering your house and lying in bed reading a book are all not just tolerated but encouraged. So, when I was thinking about how to experience the perfect relaxing day out in Edinburgh to promote hotels in Edinburgh*, I just knew it had to be set on a Sunday. ‘Staycationing’ isn’t that new a thing. When I was growing up, holidays spent in the UK were just how things were in my family. Aside from a one-off trip to France, we stuck to the familiar sights of Stonehenge, Scarborough, Longleat Safari Park (waking up with the lions roaring – amazing), the Cotswolds and the Highlands. And I loved it. To this day, there are lots of pals of mine who haven’t really explored their own bit of the world, and I like knowing I spent time doing that before sticking my backpack on and hopping on a plane to go elsewhere.
