We are over the moon! Thank you Austin! We're honored to win The Austin Chronicle's 2024 Best of Kids & Family (Wildcard Category)!
We stole a few minutes with our Founder and Director, Laura Barrios Bruce, to talk with her about what this award means, how Mi Casa Es Tu Casa was born, and why she uses music as the glue for the program.
If you don't know Laura, we hope this gives you a little insight into all the thought and research that went into forming Austin's award-winning Spanish music program for babies.

Some of us pressure ourselves to make elaborate memories for our children.
We pour money and time into curating the perfect vacation or excursion around town. But these special events are not necessarily what will leave our children with the deepest, most meaningful recollections.
It’s the spontaneous glee we feel when our favorite song comes on. Or the giggles we get when our dad tries to dance. Or the emotion that wells up when a lyric hits just right.
For Father's Day this year, we asked Mi Casa Es Tu Casa® teachers what role music played in their relationship with their papá.

We will all, at some point, be confronted with loss. As parents, we hope to spare our children from the most devastating forms that loss can take: losing a parent, a sibling, a friend. But it does happen, and we don't always know how to help our children, especially when we, ourselves, are grieving.
Here are a few books that families within the Mi Casa Es Tu Casa® community have found helpful over the years as we have witnessed the loss of deeply loved parents, grandparents, siblings and others.
On a smaller scale, our children are confronted often with having to temporarily separate from a pa ..read more

Find out as Mi Casa Es Tu Casa® founder and director, Laura Bruce, sits down with Maritere and Erica from Mamas411 podcast for an in-depth conversation...in Spanish.
Our invitation from Mamas411 podcast came during the flurry around our 2nd Latin Grammy nomination for Best Latin Children's album. And we were honored to make space to have a real conversation about the heart of Mi Casa Es Tu Casa®.

One day after Spanish music class, Mi Casa Es Tu Casa® dad, Roisel, stayed a few minutes longer with his daughter, Ave, to tell us the story behind why our song, Un Pajarito, meant so much to him and his family.
It was this detail, and his dedication to parenting, to music, to Spanish, and the ritual of coming to class that made us reach out to him and ask for an interview.
If Spanish is important to your family, if you want to raise a kind and empathetic child, if there are songs that come into your life and seem to speak directly to you, read on.

Abi speaks mostly Spanish with her 2-year-old daughter, Amal. And it shows; Amal responds to and understands Spanish perfectly and even babbles and sings in Spanish. And yet, Abi is not a native Spanish speaker.
We wanted to know how Abi had established such a solid base in Spanish for Amal, and what role Mi Casa Es Tu Casa® played, so we asked her to coffee to talk about it.
In our interview, she shared her approach to languages and parenting, stuff every new parent with a goal of raising a bilingual child should know!
I also learned that Amal is actually trilingual since her father speaks t ..read more

Have you ever heard anyone refer to Mi Casa Es Tu Casa® as a “Mommy-and-Me Music class?” Well, we prefer “Parent-Child Music Class,” and by the end of our interview with this Mi Casa Es Tu Casa® dad, you’ll understand why you should count dads in!
Music & Spanish were the Perfect Mix
Lee came to Mi Casa Es Tu Casa® because he wanted to share a love of music with his daughter.
And he also wanted to give her a head start on learning a new language, something he, like many of us, wished he’d had growing up. Since we offer both Spanish and music, it was meant to be. In Summer 2021, he began a ..read more
