Check out our YouTube Channel (see link in tab) for the latest training videos where I set up a great little practice session for our AKC Senior Hunt Test for trainers who train alone LOL. Thunder Launchers are great for this! I also needed a setup where I didn’t need to walk much since I messed up my knee………………….. Check out our new drill “the ..read more

I took the boys to a picnic test over the week-end. Picnic tests are mock tests set up like a real hunt test so that you can see how your dog performs in that environment. One pro trainer told me you get about 50% of the dog you normally have at a hunt test. That is why it’s a good idea, in day-to-day training, to ..read more

Well our little bit of backtracking seems to have paid off as I took the boys for four – and five- point drills last week and I did not have the issue with Q mouthing and dropping the bird or bumper which had started to become a thing, he did drop it coming out of water one time but he only needed reminding. I decided to take advantage of the sub-freezing temperatures, snow and ice by doing a little foundation and obedience work the last couple weeks. I think that I haven’t been doing enough foundation work as dogs need this periodically to “remind them” of concepts they have learned in the past. Though we are doing advanced drills and concepts in the field, I was getting some ..read more

I added a new drill page where we can put our favorite drills, check it out! I was getting some cast refusals from Prinz in a group session and again while doing a nine point drill. I was unclear if there was some issue where he was not understanding (he has cataracts, could be hearing loss, etc.) or did he understand but chose to do ..read more

Added some new video on the YouTube channel of the boys doing poor man’s triples, which means that I am using a hand held launcher to get the third mark down, I am a “poor man” with no helper. I try to post video that has errors and mistakes so you can see how I am dealing with them – perfect performance videos don’t teach ..read more

I developed a new drill I am calling the quad brush drill. It came about because when I was running the nine point drill the killer blind was the one where they had to run a stretch on light cover then plunge into heavy cover about 10 yards to get to the blind, I did it cold for Prinz and he did NOT get that ..read more

An interesting little side effect of doing all this new stuff and mixing things up, is the boys are forced to pay closer attention. The next time out after doing the one for ones we did double doubles I think Q really thought there was a blind out there, when he was looking for the memory bird… next time I did singles he really thought ..read more

Next new drill we tried is one for ones. Mark, blind, mark, blind. I thought it would be easy for my boys since we’ve been doing mark / line drills, but NOT. This is a great one to teach them to do what you want them to do and go where you want them to go. A common theme of all of these drills, is ..read more
