The journey back in time starts with brass plates on the wooden doors saying ‘push’ unilingually in English, a ‘no-no’ in contemporary Québec. To the right is another moment from a bygone era: a cenotaph for staff lost in the Second World War. Opposite is a hallway painted a lush forest green. The Daniels Corporation (Daniels) recently hosted the first-ever Daniels on Parliament Student Design Competition, an initiative that aims to nurture creativity and redefine contemporary living spaces.
The competition also gives students an opportunity to showcase their talent, network with industry experts and gain experience in their future field.

The Toronto Metropolitan University, Department of Architectural Science will be hosting the internationally acclaimed architecture exhibition entitled, Buone Nuove: Good News from Italy, and has issued a call for participation.
This exhibition first opened at the MAXXI museum in Rome in 2022. After traveling to Stockholm, Doha, New Delhi and Berlin, Buone Nuove/Good News will open at TMU’s Paul H. Cocker Gallery in the Department of Architectural Science for its inaugural North American showing on September 5, 2024.

According to CBRE’s Q2 2024 Canada Office Figures, momentum continued to build in the Canadian office market in the second quarter of 2024, with downtown Class A vacancy decreasing for the second consecutive quarter and sublet space declining for a fourth consecutive quarter.
The Canadian office market reported a total of 2.2 million sq. ft. of positive net absorption in Q2 and was supported by pre-leased new supply deliveries. The 25th edition of the International Garden Festival, called The Ecology of Possibility, is now open to the public.
This year’s edition will run until October 6, and will showcase 27 contemporary gardens, including six new ones, as well as a permanent installation.

The 2024 Canadian Homeowner Renovation Report by Angus Reid in partnership with Financeit Canada Inc., has revealed that a majority of Canadian homeowners are planning to stay in their current homes over the next year.
Despite the Bank of Canada (BOC) cutting the key interest rate in June for the first time since March 2020, the data from the report indicates that people are still cautious about making big financial decisions such as purchasing a new house. The report revealed that those aged 35-54 are the most cautious to move during tight financial times at 30 per cent.
