Before and after - an upscale modern kitchen

This updated kitchen happened back in 2020, just before the Covid shut-down. It came to a complete halt before becoming a snail’s pace in finishing things up. It was a long haul, but many months later, all the finishing touches were put into place. It is only now, four years later, that I am finally privy to some amazing photos as my clients are moving and these are the online staging photos. (I did see their new home and their new kitchen is already done and gorgeous - I’m so happy for them!) Enjoy these before, during, and afters of their home. At least someone else will be able to enjoy the ..read more

My kitchen through the years
Toronto Designers Blog

I have lived in my 1958 home for over 28 years, and be it as it may in my field, I have made changes to my kitchen. Many times! My most recent one takes me back to an all white kitchen, and I think I am always happiest when things are the ‘colour’ white in my world. The dark green kitchen lasted a whole 3 weeks! The red maybe a year? The black kitchen (not a colour so it was OK in my mind), lasted a few years. I have changed the backsplash just twice, and the counters just once to the black soapstone from the original laminate. The cabinets are from the original remodel when we first moved in ..read more

A table as an island
Toronto Designers Blog

I have always dreamed of having a standard height table act as an island in a grand kitchen. I just love the appeal of that! And of course, this Nancy Meyers’ kitchen in ‘It’s Complicated’ (this first image) solidified that dream for me. It’s practical for the most part, but there are still a few things to consider. a table is not as high as an island, therefore it will feel shorter for the average height person - great for baking needs, but not great for chopping needs typically we like to have chairs around a table so these may get in the way - of course stools that tuck under can always ..read more

Eclipse decorating

I know, what is eclipse decorating? Well, I have no idea, so I’m going to make it up because today feels special. Maybe it’s simply like these images suggest - circular, round, eclipse like shapes, and just all around simple ‘circle’ design. And as some of you may know, my favourite shape is a circle, so this makes me happy. Check out these images for some inspiration as we come out of the darkness and back into the light today. Happy Eclipse Day ..read more

Art for your home
Toronto Designers Blog

Art is personal. I am often asked for help in this area, but I always find it hard to make suggestions. What I typcially suggest is a size, maybe colours, and the frame style and colour. But for content, I always recommend doing research, including online shopping and going into galleries around town. Today I am going to suggest a new gallery, opening up tomorrow, March 16th. It is the gallery of an artist I met, and follow, on Instagram, of all places. She’s lovely and does amazing work herself. Check out the gallery in person, or online here, and see for yourself why I am suggesting this pla ..read more

The English kitchen

English kitchens are on my radar of late. I love the classic and well built appeal of them. To me, what makes them right, is that they almost always include an amazing oven area, a unique mix of finishes, and some elements of rustic or natural components. Check out these great examples of what I consider to be beautiful English kitchens ..read more

And yes, some trendy things are in here too of course. Here they are! (all images have links for purchasing, so go ahead and click on them ..read more

With world upheaval, it is nice to come back home. Home should always feel comforting to you. You can start with a Pinterest or Houzz board with things that say comfort to you, and then you can hone in on what it is that makes it so. Here are some things that I personally find comforting to look at. It’s important to escape at times, and for me, it is always through home decor. How do you escape ..read more
