Shut down the Braves, get tattooed by the Angels: Ah, the duality of man seen in Tanner Bibee.
The less said about last night’s 6-0 loss to the lowly Angels by the Guardians, the better. It was good to see Bo Naylor (two 107 mph hits resulting in a single and an error) and Jose Ramirez (two lineouts at 104 and 103 mph) hit the ball hard. Steven Kwan had another couple hits and a walk. Gabriel Arias had a single... and three strikeouts... and Brayan Rocchio went 1 for 3 with a hard-hit single. I’m ..read more

Nick Wittgren speaks about his career in the overlooked role of middle relief
When you think of your favorite team, who’s the first player you think of? The star shortstop leading the team in OBP? The Cy Young-winning starter? The All-Star closer that throws 100+ miles per hour? Surely, those are the most important players, right? Think deeper.
While those players in the spotlight are vital to the team’s success, so are the smaller guys. The backup catcher can be the hero of an 11th-inning walk-off. The pinch runner can be the reason the tying run comes home on an out to right ..read more

News and Notes for Friday, May 3rd, 2024
Betrayal produces feelings of anger. And I feel betrayed.
I had assumed that the Guardians would not play Gabriel Arias in centerfield unless they were sure he was capable of playing the position. Last night, it became clear that my trust in the Guardians was misplaced and that makes me feel betrayed. Arias has the athleticism to pursue fly balls in centerfield but he does not currently have the experience and training to effectively catch those balls at a major league level.

Help should be on the way for the Guardians ‘pen soon...and they need it
Coming into 2024, the talk of the town was starting pitching. Shane Bieber, Triston McKenzie, Gavin Williams, Tanner Bibee, Logan Allen. That’s as strong as a 1-through-5 as you were set to find in the bigs. Unfortunately, we never even saw this turn through the rotation once this season. Instead, Bieber is done, Gavin hasn’t pitched, and it’s been a mix and match combo of Sticks trying to return to form (which appears to be happening!), a struggling Logan Allen, Tanner Bibee, the emergence of B ..read more
