Our Cellar Kitchen Remodel :: The Three Biggest Decisions When Selecting Cabinetry

It goes without saying that cabinets are the foundation of any kitchen remodel. They are the one thing you really don’t want to screw up, the item you are most likely to spend your time agonizing over, and definitely the place where diving into the details really matters. Also – measuring, measuring measuring. It can all be a bit overwhelming, but when they come together and get put into place? The reality of your new kitchen takes shape and it’s the BEST feeling. After revealing the finished (!!!) remodel of our cellar kitchen yesterday over on Emily Henderson’s blog, I thought it would ..read more

House Tour :: A Renovated Modern Victorian with The Most Gorgeous Kitchen

Somewhere in the course of the past year, our family switched from eating in the ‘formal’ dining room to our breakfast nook for most meals. Of course, this may have had something to do with the fact that we haven’t exactly been entertaining, but there is something about the ease and convenience of an eat-in kitchen that has become more and more appealing. So my question is – is it possible to have a dining space connected to the kitchen in a way that feels formal enough for guests, and comfortable enough for breakfast? Well, my friends, I think we’ve found it… The renovation of this 19th cen ..read more

The Gorgeous Wide Plank Floors (And the Many Tones!) We’re Considering for our Next Remodel

It’s barely been a month since we finished the renovation of our basement, but I’m already thinking about the next big project: our attic! Currently a completely unfinished space, we’re going to tackle this one in phases. First, the roof has to be replaced, which is happening in June. After that, we plan on adding the basics: new electrical, insulation, walls, and – my favorite bit – flooring. When I think about our attic, all I can imagine up there is gorgeous, wide planks running the entire length of the space. So, I turned to Carlisle Wide Plank Floors for some direction and insp ..read more

House Tour :: This Palm Beach Home Injects a Bit of Seaside Whimsy

When it comes to house tours, sometimes I like to save the best part for last. But in the case of this fabulous beach house designed by Tamsin Johnson, I had to lead with my favorite part of the home, as it’s perhaps the best display of chic, restrained beach house whimsy that I have ever seen. This indoor/outdoor room is literal perfection with its sparse furnishings, and an ideal mix of modern lines with classic beach materials and decor. And, of course, that palm tree! But the real cherry on top for me is the hilarious wicker fish light pendants, combined with crabs crawling on ..read more

Everything’s Coming Up… Geraniums!

If I had to choose one plant to add to your potting list this year, hands down it’s the Geranium. While other cultures (from Scandinavian to Italian) have embraced this deliciously scented classic for decades or longer, here in the States, it’s always been seen as a bit of a ‘common’ flower. But thanks to the surge in cottage-inspired interiors (aka cottagecore!), and the plant’s associations with this style, the Geranium is finding new fandom as of late. I credit my love of this flower to John Derian, who perfectly showcases how lovely and wild these blooms can be… (via domino) Until seein ..read more

How to Style Your Coffee Table for Spring

There is no happier moment for me in spring than when all the fruit trees in our yard start blooming!! I love snipping branches to bring into the house, rearranging everything in sight to feature these beauties. While we tend to place larger branches like these on dining tables, kitchen counters and mantels, I thought I’d show you how to style them into your coffee table this year. Let’s start with the main feature: the branches. Here’s a quick tip: I like to snip branches that have a bit more of an interesting shape to them. See how the one on the left curves a bit? It adds some nice organi ..read more

Try the Trend :: Checkerboard

Whether you love it or hate it, it’s official: checkerboard is back. For many of you, I’m sure this trend is hardly groundbreaking news, and you’d be correct. Back in 2019, in fact, I wrote a whole post about how I had a sudden affection for checkerboard floors and was exploring the option of painting my very dated basement tile into black and white squares. To be honest… I sort of thought the look would die. I, for one, am very glad that it hasn’t. But what makes this trend so unique is that unlike many others, its application is happening in more permanent places – especially tile. While t ..read more

House Tour :: A Desert Adobe that Embraces Softness and Simplicity

I always love for the first house tour of the year to be a nice palette cleanser, and this pared down desert home is it. The plaster walls bring such a welcoming softness, while the thoughtful furnishings keep things simple, but warm. I know I’ve said it before, but there are days when I wish I could empty our entire house and start over, to get down to the essentials, like this. One thing to call out as we go through this home is that it was quite the intense renovation! Taking their time, both designer Sarah Solis and home owner Magdalena Wosinska really thought through each aspe ..read more

This post is a long overdue one, as our basement bathroom renovation started about a month after the kitchen! Which is the amount of time it took me to convince my husband that it was silly to renovate the entire kitchen and not the horrendous bath. And when I say horrendous, I mean horrendous.  So let me get you all up to speed because this project is about two weeks out from being finished, and I can’t wait to share the reveal with you!! But let’s start where all good things start: with a little inspiration.. source : emily seeds interiors When we (ahem, my husband) finally decided th ..read more

How We’re Decorating for the Holidays (And Beyond!) This Year.
Coco Kelley » Interior Design

Usually, I’m the gal who has her tree up the first week of December. I love taking out our ornaments one by one, putting on Christmas music, drinking whiskey cider and covering the windows with swag. But this year? The very idea of putting up all of our usual holiday decor, only to take it down a few weeks later sounded utterly exhausting – and I’m sure I’m not the only who had this feeling. But, I also knew that I’d regret doing nothing. So I came up with a new strategy. I rummaged through all boxes in our attic, selecting a third of our usual decor, and then went to work on the one area of ..read more
