With this in mind, we’ve created three table top worlds for you, each with its own flourishes and distinct per ..read more

Setting your dinner table with beautiful basics should be a reminder that the objects we choose to surround ourselves with can not only be timeless and long-lasting, but also quietly uplifting. At the same time, there is nothing quite like that little adrenaline spoke you get after seeing something real cool on Instagram – one to realise it is also a #stylesteal. Realising that you can afford a gorgeous dinner set without breaking the bank gives me all the adult feels. And since we’re right in the middle of our summer entertaining seasons, there’s no better time to refresh your tabletop collec ..read more

These balmy summer nights are also the perfect opportunity to gather friends and family together, while weekend brunches are a personal favourite.  When considering a dining table and chairs for your outdoor space, it is important to think about scale, shape and usage – just like you would for inside your home. Obviously, the smaller the space the smaller the pieces. Shape is also important as it affects the flow in and around the dining area. Round tables are ideal for corner nooks and circulation areas, as they create more of a sense of ‘flow’. If you need to push your table against a w ..read more

THE CLASSIC WOOD + WHITE OUTDOOR LOOK

The weather in Cape Town these last few days is everything that I live for! I love evenings where I can sit outside and watch the mountain change as the sun sets behind it.  In the office we’re getting lots of requests on outdoor spaces, so we figured that the good weather has been motivating many of you to tackle your list of outdoor updates.  We understand these things take time (and money), as well as a lot of thoughtful consideration. Decision paralysis is real as people try to consider whether they will still like choices they make now in 1, 2 or even 5 years time.  In the ..read more

We already know that the kitchen is one of the most important spaces in our home. So naturally we pay attention when we see shifts in design preferences in the kitchen. We’re a bit reluctant to call them trends, when we’ve seen the rise in some of these elements over the last few years. Many have also come about as a result of functional lifestyle changes, or a new perspective on how we nurture connections with family and friends. For many people, simply ‘enjoying their life’ has become a driving force behind prioritising the design of their homes.  As part of the ongoing rise in upg ..read more

KITCHEN COUNTER STOOLS

Once upon a time we had a client that designed her kitchen without a counter overhang and without counter stools – very much on purpose. Her reasoning was twofold – the island had a small, lower dining height table attached to it and that their dining table was right there (it is literally right there), so everyone could sit around the table instead of crowding around the kitchen island. And while some people did, most people ended up standing around the island or even leaning against it. Eventually she bought counter stools just to place there for guests to sit on.  When we talked about ..read more

Images via Pinterest and Better Homes and Gardens   Is there anything more South African than standing around a fire in the summer? This is why we believe that the addition of a fire pit to your outdoor space is beyond practical – it becomes a focal point that enhances the overall ambiance of your outdoor space.  In the summer, the fire pit serves as more than just a source of warmth; it transforms outdoor spaces into cosy hubs for socialising and relaxation. On days like today, temperatures certainly don’t necessitate a fire for heat. It is the ambiance created by flickering flames ..read more

Images via Salt and EST Living So hear me out on this one, because we know that talk of minimalism conjures up images of stark spaces stripped down to the bare minimum. However in our view the concept of minimalism affords you the opportunity for more. Minimalist design prioritises essential element, optimising both aesthetics and functionality. Embracing minimalism through design also promotes a mindful an uncluttered lifestyle, encouraging conscious consumption and sustainable living practises. Now we know this all sounds a bit like lofty goals when you think of your living room and everythi ..read more
