DIY Command Centre
From Great Beginnings

Welcome to the motherboard of the pantry, the command centre. This is where we organise our selves but more importantly, our meals. The command centre features a to-do list, shopping list, calendar and weekly menu. For us, having all this in the pantry works great because we can update the shopping list as we see what we’re low on whilst also adding what we need to the list when we do our weekly meal plans. So let’s get down to the nitty gritty on how you can create your own! I used four photo frames I bought from Target as the main structure and pretty much turned them into whiteboards sin ..read more

Storing Oils, Vinegar and spices
From Great Beginnings

Oils & Vinegar I had purchased a few of these bottles to keep different types of oil and vinegar. They’re glass which meant I could write the use-by date on the back in a white board marker and not have to worry about keeping the packaging. I purchased the bottles from Myer and Wheel & Barrow (Maxwell & Williams) but unfortunately, they’re no longer stocked. Numerous people have asked me about these bottles but unfortunately I am yet to find an alternative. I designed and printed my labels on A3 paper, (200GSM cardstock) laminated them and then cut them out. I then used glue tack ..read more

Organising under the kitchen sink
From Great Beginnings

I detest the ugly plumbing pipes under the kitchen sink so I was determined to find a way to hide them as much as I possibly could when I was working on organising the space. As part of my new years resolution, I also decided to go a bit more chemical and waste free, so I had to focus on creating a storage solution that would now house that change adequately.  Here’s what I was working with: As you can see by the very uneven holes I attempted to drill into the cabinetry, power tools are not my strong point, so I opted for a ‘no build’ option. Before Here is what it looked like ..read more

Pantry Baking Corner
From Great Beginnings

I absolutely adore the baking corner in my pantry. It was one of the very last additions I made and it has probably been my favourite. Now, I can display all my cute baking stuff which was previously hidden in drawers. I used the Ikea Spice Racks as my book holders and painted them pink. They’re $4 each! Then, I added some screws to the shelving so I could hang my measuring cups and utensils right underneath. I am still looking for a spot to add my oven mitts and a few other bits and pieces but this will do for now! The shelves display my favourite cook books with the rest stored in a basket ..read more

My progress to a chemical free home
From Great Beginnings

I am an unfortunate recipient of regular ocular migraines. Recently, I started to pay more attention to what sets me off and I have narrowed it down to two things; overexposure to sunlight and strong chemical scents. I don’t cope particularly well in heat and no matter how hydrated I stay. If I’m out in the sun for too long, I can pretty much guarantee to be in severe pain later so naturally, I try to limit my exposure. Strong scents are another big trigger for me which is unfortunate because I used to really love the smell of a chemically cleaned room and it was a huge motivator. I felt sick ..read more

Kitchen Renovation
From Great Beginnings

Just under four years ago, Dom and I built our first home together. We knew that this wasn’t our forever home and the intention was always to rent it out in the future after we build our dream home, so we built extremely stock standard and tried not to overcapitalise on fixtures, upgrades, appliances etc. Back then, we built only what we could afford. We did want it to feel like our home though because we were still going to be there for a few years so over time, we spent money on decorating it and making additions that fit our current lifestyle; such as a backyard for entertaining ..read more

Craft closet organisation
From Great Beginnings

I finally have my own office! When we built our house, we were very focused on prioritising spending money on what we were actually going to use, and cupboards and fittings in spare bedrooms were most definitely not a priority. We had been putting some money aside to eventually finish the house so we can get a better rental income when we do eventually move onto our forever home, so now I have my own office, with a whole spare cupboard! We had the cabinetry custom built so it could fit the space. When I designed the wardrobe, I wanted it to be able to double as a craft closet ..read more
