Having some trouble conceptualising how my tables should be made for categorised products with relatively large amounts of multiple different fields

I'm trying to make a database of computer components, but I'm having a little trouble conceptualising the tables I would need. I figured that, given how each component has a few identical fields, with numerous others that are unique to that type of component, splitting them apart would be useful, but I fear I'm either overcomplicating it, or setting myself up for headaches later if I need to change parts of the database. Right now, I've got a product table which includes basic info like product ID, price, part number and part category. Categories include Processor, Memory, Graphics Card, Chas ..read more

I'm working on a project at the moment and wondering how possible is it to add a section in my form/database using access for an upload button that when a document is connected to it it copies that document into a designated folder under a name given in the form but also connects it to that row on the DB so if I ever need to view that doc again it can be done through the excel dump or through the DB ? submitted by /u/Cool_Pop_5645 [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

All SharePoint tables are disconnected

I have an MS Access database that sends small sets of data (maybe 200-300 records at a time) out to SharePoint tables that users then edit, or add to, and I pull them back into Access. It's all manual at the push of a button to send and retrieve and it's done entirely with macro actions and queries. The tables serve as temp tables that I clear and append data to. I'm working with Access in Microsoft Office Pro Plus 2019 -- Microsoft® Access® 2019 MSO (Version 2403 Build 16.0.17425.20124) 32-bit running on Windows Server 2019 Version 1809 Build 17763.5576 I've been having trouble with SharePoi ..read more

Hello, I am developing a database of electrical power distribution equipment in a large building. I am looking for advice on the best approach to a particular manipulation of the data I am trying to achieve. The relationships between pieces of equipment is captured in a table of their 'schedules', such as the one below: Source Load A A1 A A2 A A3 A A4 A1 a A1 b A1 c A1 d A2 e A2 f A2 g A2 h A3 i A3 j A3 k A3 l A4 m A4 n A4 o A4 p a a1 a a2 a a3 a a4 b b1 b b2 b b3 b b4 and so on... As you can imagine, the flow of power through a ..read more

Question about lookup functions in tables

Hey guys, I’m designing a asset tracking database for the company I work for and I am having trouble with a table. Right now I am using a lookup function dropdown thing on one table to choose the asset they are checking out but it only gives the name of the asset. The issue is that we have assets which use the same name which means I need a way to trigger another field to automate look up the corresponding database ID to the item chosen on the dropdown thing. I have included pictures but please lmk if you have any questions submitted by /u/jacktg11 [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

MS Access subscript out of range Error

I wanted to import an MS Excel file into one of my tables in Access. I kept getting the "Subscript out of range" error. I changed the Date column in my Excel file to the same format as the date field in my Access file (i.e. date/time). I still got the message after that and then tried to copy the rows of the Excel file into the Access file and then I got the error that my LookUp Wizard Field finds no matching records in the linked Table. submitted by /u/WICK3D_Mayko [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

I have a continuous form with three search boxes. status, format, expiration date. As well as two buttons one to refresh the form once I've entered info into the search boxes and one to pull a report. Expiration date start date box and an ending box work just fine but when I add criteria linking the status and the format box it asked me to define a parameter by themselves. if I was to undo the expiration date criteria and do either status or format they work but if I add criteria to do them both they give me another parameter issue. Separately they work but together they don't, Has anyone had ..read more

How to make a Field where I can type equations for custom cost calculations

Hey guys! So I am working on this accounting database for my job which tracks equipment we rent to various job sites and then calculates the financial totals based on the length of time those items were rented. I have come to realize that certain items need their own unique equations to accurately calculate their cost so I was wondering if anyone knew how i could make a field where I could input a custom equation in text form for each individual item within the database and then have a second field convert those text form equations into equations which actually calculate. Any help will be gre ..read more
