Buena Park Mayor Sunny Youngsun Park will run for the 4th Supervisor District, which is currently represented by Supervisor Doug Chaffee, who is up for re-election this year.
All indications are that Chaffee will run for re-election, so Park’s candidacy sets up a Democrat-versus-Democrat contest in the June 2022 primary.
While word of her supervisorial candidacy has been circulating in political circles for several days, Park officially announced her candidacy today.

Former Trustee Tim Shaw, who resigned last month from the Orange County Board of Education rather than defend against an expensive “incompatible offices” lawsuit, was appointed this evening to fill the 4th District vacancy created by his resignation.
Shaw was a long-time member of the La Habra City Council when he was elected to the OCBE in March of 2020, defeating three other candidates. Among the losing candidates was Paulette Chaffee, the wife of Orange County Supervisor Doug Chaffee.

From the City of Anaheim regarding state Housing and Community Development’s judgment that the Angel Stadium agreement violates the Surplus Land Act:
A proposed offer to add more than 500 additional affordable apartments and bring the development plan for Angel Stadium of Anaheim to 25 percent affordable has been declined by the state of California with the city open to continued talks.
The state’s decline has resulted in the California Department of Housing and Community Development issuing what its has deemed a notice of violation of the state’s Surplus Land Act on Dec. 8.

The Master Services Council, the union organization representing thousands of Disneyland Resort cast members has approved a 19% pay increase over three years, after rejecting the identical proposal the month before.
The Master Services Council unions represent 9,700 cast members who work in eateries and retail shops, and as ride operators and maintenance workers.
The union had rejected an identical contract proposal on November 17, but reversed course earlier this month and approved it.

There is a tentative agreement to resume waste collection service in Anaheim, with Republic Services workers off the picket line this morning.
Today we will continue to see limited but expanding service for scheduled pickup areas and priority sites.
In coming days, we expect to see service start to normalize and get better each day into next week.

The Disneyland Resort will soon take big step toward a return to pre-pandemic normalcy, announcing that popular live attractions Fantasmic, the Main Street Electrical Parade and World of Color will return to the resort in early 2022.
The announcement was last week by Disney Parks, Experiences and Products Chairman Josh D’Amaro at the annual Destination D23 event, held last week in Florida.

Anaheim has put forth the largest expansion of affordable housing in our city’s history with our plan for the future of Angel Stadium of Anaheim.
Yet, from where we stand today, that may not be enough for California.
For months, Anaheim has talked with the state’s Department of Housing and Community Development about moving forward with a stadium site sale and development.
The issue? California’s updated Surplus Land Act covering unneeded government land and a well-intended goal of prioritizing affordable housing.

In January of 2022, the City of Anaheim will launch an ambitious, comprehensive campaign to revitalize it’s section of Beach Boulevard in West Anaheim, which runs from Lincoln Avenue south to Ball Road. City staff presented to the city council during a public workshop on Tuesday.
There will be an immediate focus on proactive code enforcement and crime prevention, paralleling existing economic development efforts aimed at attracting new housing and higher-end retail, entertainment and shopping options for West Anaheim residents, along with city investments in neighborhood improvement.
