A jerkbait profile with a difference, the Z-Man 4” Finesse ShadZ is loaded with strike triggers, including a narrow minnow profile body, micro ribbed back and long worm-like tail. Being 10X Tough ElaZtech, which is naturally buoyant, super-soft and flexible, the tail dances with the slightest movement imparted by the angler or water movement, attracting fish and triggering strikes. In fact, it’s virtually impossible to keep this tail still in the water! Available in a range of natural colours – such as favourites Pearl, Shiner and Watermelon Red – the 4” Finesse ShadZ has accounted for a varie ..read more

An Anzac Day flick around Lake Tinaroo paid off in spades for a 17-year-old Atherton Tablelands fisho in the second edition of the Department of Agriculture and Fisheries Fish ‘n SIP$ tagged fishing competition, in partnership with the Freshwater Fishing and Stocking Association of Queensland. Tate Gowan from Tolga southwest of Cairns reeled in a 92cm barramundi on April 25, netting the $20,000 first prize, as well as a bonus $6250 for the first fish caught at Tinaroo. “I fish at Tinaroo several times a week and have caught well over 150 barra out of the dam over the past couple of years,” Tat ..read more

Welcome to this week’s Sunshine Coast Fishing Report. The past week has seen some good fishing days, with the odd shower about. Unfortunately, it looks like showers will set in from today until early next week, so it’s going to be another wet weekend on the water. There’s been some local media coverage and concern in local Facebook fishing groups about the presence of ulcers on some fish caught recently in the Maroochy and Noosa rivers. ABC News Sunshine Coast recently reported on the issue, saying “…the fish were infected with red spot disease or epizootic ulcerative syndrome (EUS), caused by ..read more

Hooking big catches

If there was one single fishing related thing I hate seeing, it’s a hook or lure randomly lying on the ground waiting for someone to step on it. Such was the case when my daughter in-law to be Rebekah Ellis walked into our garage recently and trod on a 10/0 treble that had been lying in wait for its victim. Now, one thing’s for sure and that is when Bec does something, she does it well. The accompanying photo shows the large 10/0 embedded as far as it could go, and what made things a whole lot worse was the angle the hook when into her foot at. Instead of the hook going upwards into her foot ..read more

Monduran Anglers Stocking Association – also known as MASA – held the 2024 Hummingbird Barra Classic at Lake Monduran on March 22-24. This year, the weather gods did not listen to our wishes of ideal fishing conditions for the classic. Twelve months previous, you set a date and hope the weather will be as good as the moon phase you choose – pity that doesn’t always happen. This year it rained… a lot, and the wind blew, and the temperature was all over the place. The anglers who were able to get to the dam a few days earlier for a pre-fish, spent time moving around the points and bays just look ..read more

Flat out on mud crabs and flathead

This year has been one of the wettest we’ve had for a while. Constant downpours have kept the rivers browner than we would like. The fish don’t seem to know whether they’re coming or going. As soon as the water looks to be clearing up and the fish start pushing back in, it rains again and we are back to square one. Mud crabs have been plentiful and the quality is generally very good in May. There is always someone out there who wants your crabs or pots more than you, so expect to have your pots checked or stolen at some point. I do my best to make it hard for the average person to find my pots ..read more

Welcome to this week’s Sunshine Coast Fishing Report. Well it’s raining again! After a few picture perfect weeks, the gloomy weather has returned, with showers predicted for the long weekend. Windy conditions will make offshore fishing tricky, so we’d recommend sticking to local rivers and estuaries – just make sure you pack the wet weather gear! More rain means prime crabbing conditions. We will have fresh mullet in store over the weekend to load the pots. Unfortunately its looking like we will be without live worms this weekend due to the weather, but keep an eye on our Facebook and Instagra ..read more
